 Childless Tents

Kisses like sun drops
dipped in sweet pollen,
play youthful cheeks
plump with wonder.

Faithless somber notes
of sorrow yet tarry
lost atop the velvet back
of an anxious Buckeye.

Goldenrod is changing
for Fall calls her new palette,
and aging fawns in toasted
woods, seek their lost spots.

Funnel spiders dot lawns
like lifeless, white hair-nets
perched as childless tents
on strands of fading grass.

Resident legs gingerly
tickle the web on her trap
to see if a meal is near,
as dew melts like white glaze.

My seeping ruby-red eyes
burn from such bitter loss.
The chambers of my aging heart
mix colors blue and red.

I love this one, Joni. So heartfelt and sorrowful, and the nature imagery is brilliant as only you can create. The final two stanzas really stand out to me as I can identify with them on many levels. This one is beautiful in its poignancy, and further proof that you’re the best poet out there right now. Thank you for sharing your heart and soul with us, my friend. Wishing you a peaceful rest of the week. 😊

Dearest Mike, Thank you so much for your kind and very generous response to this post and for also going into Hotel. Everyone has been very gracious about that. I wanted you to know that I wish I could say that I was shocked that you could identify with the last two stanzas, and yet I am not surprised. Although, my dear friend I am sorry that you can. No one should grow up like we did. We woke up one morning and the ground was covered in dew and you could see these spider webs that reminded me of my dad putting up an enormous army tent for us amongst the pine trees. They would occasionally let us stay out there all night. It was like cocooning is for me now. I knew once we were out there they would get drunk, and not come out – a night of peace. That was the memory that came rushing back to me. The spider legs which are barely visible in the photograph, is us girls sneaking out to play safely in the dark. The older I get unfortunately the more these memories are coming back. We both send hugs, <3 <3 <3

I always wonder how someone who has such an enormous following manages to keep up with their comments and you and many other people I follow actually do. It is like a full-time job and you already have a full-time job. I read maybe three or four people a day if I am able to do reading and I take my time with everyone I read. So it can be a long time in-between visits. You don’t ever have to worry about catching up with me Cindy. I always appreciate hearing from everyone I do, but I don’t visit regularly like I use to. I use to spend 8 or more hours on line a day and honestly now, I like to spend time with my husband doing nothing on days that I feel like it. So I do admire the commitment that you and many of the friends I do visit. You all have more energy than I do. It is always a blessing to hear from anyone and I sincerely mean that. Big hugs and lots of love, Joni

Indeed my friend, Indeed. Thank you so much for reading. I hope that you continue to bless others for as long as time allows and you have the energy, it must take to translate so many amazing poetic works for us to read. It is a blessing to give others a voice. When I read your own work and translations which you do so many of, and also share some amazing art work as well, I always invision me heading out to the mailbox in my panties as a little girl, checking the mail. I was sending in poetry I had written and checking daily for the response – I so longed and hope to get. Bless your kind and modest heart.
