“Sand Shifts” Now On Spillwords

Photo and Poem ©️2024 Joni Caggiano

Sand Shifts

sand shifts, flickering, like diamond luster
dragonflies move their wings independently, hovering
ripe figs gingerly nudge tiny limbs, so her fruit falls from trees
dahlias slowly open their multi-colored hearts to give pollen to bees

oceans play on sand that has layers of treasures like petals on a floret
skillful hands tenderly peel away veils that cover my insecurities
your smile, like the alluring sound of a violin’s tune
beguile me, warm me like the sun does at noon

Congratulations on another Spillwords publishing credit, Joni. Your poetry is masterful, and your love of nature comes through in this one, most definitely. Thank you for sharing this piece with us, dear friend. Hope you’re doing well. 😊

Thank you so much for reading Mike as I really appreciate it, and always enjoy your comments. From one poet who has tremendous respect for another, I always enjoy reading your input. I believe my love and respect for nature is a big part of who I am. The fact that so many people still haven’t figured out that we can’t survive without this gift and the balance it once held for our own protection, no longer exist. We as a world continue to hurt one another as we destroy our own environment for selfish and unnecessary greed. You are welcome my friend, and I am battling with my neck again, but otherwise we are well. Much love and hugs coming your way. ❤️🤗❤️

  8. Beautiful writing Joni, your descriptions of the sparkling sand, the flowers and insects, so visual. I could close my eyes and see it all unfolding. Your slo-motion moment of love and the last line was so precious…” large green eyes smile, we hurry home, my lover, husband, and my best friend” Congratulations for being published here on Spillwords. I left you my heart there 🤗 ♥️.

Dearest Karima, I thought I responded to this lovely comment, but perhaps I did not. I appreciate your both commenting here and on SpillWords and such beautiful comments indeed. You touch my heart, my friend. Sending you much love and many hugs my dear friend. Love you, Joni

      1. Much love to you too Joni!!

  9. Myriam says:

It’s very sensual dear. I found the third part funny, as my reading was that when the fever of love is resolved; the little thing that did not hinder at all a moment ago (the sand bugs), become less idyllic, and we want to run up back at home.

    I’m happy for your spillwords
    hugs and love belle amie

My dear sweet little sister, thank you for this great comment. It really made me smile. I am glad it made you laugh or smile at least. I suppose when passion hits everything else just seems to be less important at the moment. It is funny too, because I always used to wonder why I could become so aroused in the sun – lying on the beach especially, but there is a good reason for that – The IFL /science found that the sun increases “romantic passion” in women and men. A skin protein p53 regulates the connection between sunshine and sexual desire. So there are actually medical studies on this phenomenon. Yes, the sand bugs indeed seem less interesting when one wants to be with their partner. haha (your comment made me smile – I remember looking this up a long time ago because I did notice that I was easily aroused in the sun.) Now this might be considered too much for social media but it is merely science. Many blessings my dear little sister. Love you Joni
