“Sin At six” my new poem live now on the edge of humanity

After Moriyama and Koudelka by Ian Boys, on Flickr

gazing at vivid red bricks
willing myself to evaporate
into the rough white stuff
laying snuggling in between
scarlet spies my secrets seen

torrents of rain battering tin
bolts of lightning are crackling
dogs a hollering so terrified
mama’s orders down she lay
out tonight, the dogs will stay

  1. I definitely resonate with this poem living in Florida in a 100 year old house with a tin roof. The beagles were scared to death of lightning and thunder and the rain deafening us under that tin roof. But, no one got put outside unless they wanted to. The poor dog in the rain definitely matched the image in my head.

    1. Thank you Ingrid. This one was hard to write. I suppose that night I honestly thought my mom might kill me. It is still very vivid but long ago forgiven. Thank you Ingrid for reading and for your thoughtful comment. Big hugs 🤗 Joni

      1. Indeed, with me it is my way to give back. It isn’t for everyone. However no one should feel alone and with God’s blessings I have reached many people who have had similar experiences. Hope you have a blessed day. Hugs 🤗 Joni

    1. Thank you so much Terveen. I had no idea when this was going to be published. I had to put it out there quickly. Thank you for reading and your gracious comment. Hugs 🤗 Joni

      2. Hello Dear Cindy and thank you for this very kind response. Unfortunately it found it’s way way into the secret bin. I don’t know how that happens but that is ok. It was very sweet so I didn’t want to ignore it. Love you bunches my friend! xoxoxo

      4. You are definitely not so far away my friend. You are a kind woman with a big heart and a lovely poet. Please don’t respond to this instead spend some extra time with your sweetheart. Love you sweetie ❤️🤗🦋🌹🌸

    1. Thank you for your kindness and understanding as to why I write about these horrific times. I get no pleasure from it but people have reached out to me and it helps them to know they are not alone. My poor mother was beaten, shot at and raped at the age of fourteen. She started drinking in a brothers tavern when she worked there at fourteen. Unfortunately she and my dad were unable to break the cycle. I truly believe it is because of God’s love and the closeness I felt to him growing up that saved me. Thank you always wise one for reading my words as I know it is not happy reading. Big hugs and wishing you a lovely and adventurous week. ❤️🤗🦋love Joni

  2. Congrats on yet another piece published Joni. I wish there was a “care” button to click, instead of “like”. I want to hug that child, & I would love to hug you one day as well. I am truly blessed to have you in my life. You are a lovely human. Love you always! Janette
