Fledgling’s Promise
sorrow is a thistle that claws
its way through tender flesh
festers like a wayward wound
dyes blue bird color sky to gray
red bricks, meld curtains shut
shield dreams and hopes away
like a girdle on an aged woman
with a belly made of silky clay
moods shift a clock’s rigid arms
sand drifts to erase another day
shallow breath blows out a flame
wedding vows sour, thin, and fray
yet a velvet bud feeds a fledgling
and a seed is sewn along the way
sandpipers, parrot dancers who
move as one soul along their way

A wonderful poem, Joni. 🌹
Dear AJ thank you so much for reading my work. I truly appreciate it. I am delighted you enjoyed it. Sending a big hug.
Hi, Joni. Thought I should mention your link leads to a piece at Hotel titled “Polished Composure.” I found your poem at Hotel and left a comment there, but wanted to say I love this poem. It feels deeply tender and personal, and its beauty radiates brightly. Another masterpiece by the best writer out there (and your photo is gorgeous, too).
Wishing you a good week ahead, my friend, 😊
Dearest Mike, thank you for pointed out our mistake. We messed that up. I am glad you caught it, Mich sent the right link of course, but we put the wrong one in. We were with the grandkids and Carolyn all weekend and got home late last night. We were exhausted. You forget how energetic teenagers can be every second of the day. Boys never run out of energy and what a blessing they are to us. Mike thank you for your kind words. You have such a tender heart and are such a brilliant writer, so your looking out for me, and your appreciation for my work means so much. Those little hummingbird moths are not easily spotted and they blow me away when I do. They are so often mistaken for a hummingbird. Hummingbirds weigh less than a marshmallow and are often smaller than this amazing moth. Sending you a big hug and lots of love Mike
Congraulations, Joni
Oh, thank you Timothy for reading. I appreciate it. I haven’t been on-line much lately and it was nice of Mich to publish this. We are going to miss the nature and the hummingbirds have almost all taken off for their migration. The bucks no longer meander through the yard into our woods, we are buying No Hunting Signs and NO Trespass signs to keep away the hunters. They can shoot up to three bucks a day. We have had some magnificent creatures in our yard this year. The small neighborhood has a bear that lives near by which has only made one venture into our yard and we hope it stays higher up the mountain side. However, all the wildlife is a joy. Well you would surely know about that my friend. Big hugs to you guys and all the furry creatures. Love Joni
It’s heartwarming to read your wonderful poetry there, Joni. Congratulations!
Dearest Tim, thank you so much for both your kind comments. It was nice of Mich, to have me as a guest on Hotel. You were thoughtful to read it, thank you my friend. It felt good to write something again, as it has been a while. We just got home from visiting my daughter and two of our grandchildren. You know how precious those days are. I hope you and your family are all doing well my friend. Big hugs and blessings to you.
It’s wonderful to see your fantastic poetry there, Joni.
So sorry Timothy, some how this got missed. Blessings to you this day and always. Joni ❤️
😍
Your words will always tug at my heart strings, Joni, this is beautiful!🤗
Dear Tiffany, thank you so much for reading. It means a lot to me and so does your kind comment Tiffany. Your work tugs at my heartstrings, too. That last piece with the image of the fish in the middle brought back so many happy childhood memories. I could see myself sitting on the water’s edge threading a cricket I had found to the end of my hook and sitting quietly by the water’s edge. So thank you for that my friend. Sending you lots of love and hugs, Joni
Beautiful imagery, Joni!
Dearest Barbara, thank you so much for your kind comment and for reading me on Hotel. I hope all is well with you and that life is being good to you. Sending lots of hugs your way.
Things are great! I hope all is well for you too, Joni.
I am so happy to hear it Barbara. You have been a go-getter and I love seeing that. Scott and I have finally truly nested in VA. The quiet of pastures, and three acres of woods really suit us. We feel truly blessed. Thanks my friend. 🤗
It sounds lovely there! I’m happy for you!
Thank you Barbara, that is very kind of you. We miss Seattle at times, the theater, Ballet and all the amazing restaurants and parks. Same thing about driving into Raleigh, all that was available to us as well just not on the same scale. However, we find nature to be a sanctuary a haven against the fast paced life most people are forced to live in for many reasons. We fill blessed to live here. Many blessings to you, Barbara.
Thank you so much Joni🫶❤️
You are so welcome my friend. We both send our blessings. 🙏❤️
Really nice to see you posting again, Joni. 🙂
Thank you Mia, what a truly kind thing to say. I really appreciate it. It has not been an easy last year, healthwise but I am doing better and hope to post once in a while. Sending you love, gratitude for your kindness and many blessings.
You are welcome, Joni.
I knew something was up with you when I did not get any response from your side for my book “Does Love Die With You?” You have always been such an encouraging presence otherwise. Anyway, health comes first & I wish you to get absolutely well.
Thank you for your blessings. I also send back lots of good wishes to you! 🤗💕
Thank you Mia for your kindness and understanding. May you continue to be blessed with your writing. Wishing you all the best. Big hugs and love, Joni

Oh thank you for reading and I am touched that you enjoyed this piece dear Holly. Thank you for this heartfelt comment, it means a lot to me.
This is beautiful poetry, Joni. The rhyme works to give it a classic, last century feel. It reminds me of Dickinson. Now, off to read the rest.
Dear Diana,
Thank you so much for reading me, it is always a treat to see you on my site. It is flattering to have someone say it reminds them of Dickinson. A brilliant writer. I appreciate your gracious words. Thank you for going to Hotel’s site as well. I have been wondering about you lately and trying to imagine what you may create next to tantalize and stimulate your audiences with your next book. I imagine you in your garden by the woods creating your interesting creatures in your head while you garden. Now fall is coming and the beauty of it will be everywhere you look. I am in awe for those who have such wondrous imaginations. Thank you my friend. Big hugs, Joni
Your imagery is always so vivid, Joni! I love the photo and the poem. Congratulations!
