Reading of Maggie Watson’s Poem, “Searching” from her New Book Wild Flower – by Joni

Maggie Watson is a domestic abuse survivor and a warrior.   Her book “Wild Flower” is a strong and impactful collection of poetry about her travels to find herself.  It is impossible to stop reading once you start this book.  As a ACOA (Adult Child of Alcoholics) I found this book to be captivating, courageous, contemplative and candidly written.  Brilliant!  You can buy this book on Amazon for $7.00 and the Kindle for $4.68.  Here is the link to Maggie’s book:  Wild Flower by Maggie Watson.

Maggie you, your life and your fearlessness means so much. Someone who once felt all alone in their world now feels the dark a little less, a little more empowered, and knows they too, can become independent and free from someone who empowers themselves through the fear and degradation of another. So the thanks are all yours Maggie. I hope you never forget that.

Oh Dearest Anna, I got your very gracious letter this morning. Thank you so much for including me, as it means so much.

Maggie’s book is an amazing read and it touches the heart in so many ways. She really has an amazing gift. I started reading the sample and I could not stop. I am such an inpatient woman and not proud of that, but it is so true, I am ashamed to say. So I bought the ebook immediately because I didn’t want to have to wait to receive it in the mail. She has it priced at only $7.00, busy trying to help people at that price believe me, because it is such a beautiful read. Of course we both know it is painful to read about abuse but, some way Maggie weaved the hopeful in with the sad and created an amazing experience. Thank you for your kind words dearest Anna. You are in my prayers and I pray that the Great Lord sends an extra special blessing your, Retha and the grands way this year. Love you dearest Anna, and thank you for including me within your list of friends. It means so much.

Hi, Joni. I wasn’t able to understand the reading, of course (darn my deafness) but it was good to see you reading Maggie’s poem. I could barely hear bits of your voice now and then, but no worries–I plan on purchasing Maggie’s book soon now that it’s available in paperback.

You’re so kind for supporting our dear friend Maggie, Joni. She’s a brilliant poet and a sweet person. 😊

    1. jonicaggiano says:

I am ashamed that I did not put captions to the reading. There is no excuse either. It was thoughtless and beyond forgivable. I am educated as much as a person can be without being deaf about the stigma of being deaf. The deaf deal with people like me all the time. We have not learned sign language and so we can not converse with people like yourself – so it is their responsibility to make sure that they can read lips. Those who have lost their hearing, in the city of Seattle, at least, are one of the most abused groups of individuals there are. Shelters house the battered deaf. You are one of my dearest friends in this world, Mike, and for me to forget to put captions on a post that I knew you would look at was just horrible. My only excuse is that I get nervous doing readings and wanted so badly to do this for Maggie, as she has written a gorgeous book, and did not think it through. You are too kind to be angry with me but I am sorry nevertheless. When I was a teenager and also during my twenties, I thanked God everyday when I said my prayers for my ability to see, hear, smell, talk, walk, and feel. Perhaps it was because I worked with people who had lost so much in hospitals, but I knew that our senses were a precious gift. To lose even one of those senses can make life a true challenge, especially in this world which is so fast paced today. So, there truly is no excuse for me or anyone to forget to do a caption at least at the bottom of a post – which I did not do. You will enjoy Maggie’s beautiful book. Mike, please forgive me for it is not just you that could not hear but anyone who was deaf that might have known dear Maggie and wanted to listen. So Scott is researching now the best way to add captions and we will edit the post and send it back out.

Thank you for being so kind about this Mike, but you have every reason and right to feel frustrated. You deal with your deafness daily and you are dear to both of us, so please forgive me. Let this be a lesson to everyone and anyone that might make this same mistake again. Maggie’s book is written about abuse, and those who have been unfortunate enough to lose their hearing are among the largest group of abused people.

      1. Mike U. says:

No worries at all, my dear friend. I’m not upset, and could never be upset at you for anything. I was simply delighted to see you on video, and as I mentioned in an email just now, I was trying to see if I could pick up your accent (if you have one) from the bits and pieces of your voice I could hear. It was really a lot of fun just seeing you on video. Please don’t feel badly about this, okay? I know where your heart is, and I know you’d never hurt anyone.

I don’t know ASL, either, and at some point I need to learn. I don’t know anyone else who’s deaf or hard-of-hearing, so that makes practicing ASL sort of impossible. Speech-to-text technology has come so far over the past few years that it’s nearly flawless in transcribing live communication, both on voice calls and in person. I have it on my new phone and my little tablet, so hopefully when I need to talk to people in person, this will make things much easier.

Anyway, no worries, dear friend. Please know everything is okay, no need to feel badly about anything. 😊🙏

      2. jonicaggiano says:

You are a most gracious friend, dear Mike. I am glad you liked the captions. Thanks to Scott for doing that. He is the techie in my world. I will use that for now on with any reading I do. We should learn ASL as well. Scott knows Spanish, and quite a bit of French and Italian. However, he doesn’t feel comfortable using it because he is never in a situation to use it, just like your talking about.

I can pour on the southern accent still if I want to but when I moved to Kentucky I lost my accent fast because everyone made fun of me. I don’t think I have much of an accent. Thank you again dear friend. Sending you lots of love from the both of us.

      3. Mike U. says:

Oh, the captions are live now! How cool! Thank you, Joni and Scott, for this. I’m grinning ear-to-ear now! What a wonderful reading! 😊

      4. jonicaggiano says:

Thank you so much our dear friend. Scott was kind to help find a program that did a good job. We are both delighted you liked it.
