“Stranger” Now Live On Hotel Masticadores

Photo (Carolina Beach Pier) and Poem by Joni

Stranger

round, dark like chocolate
left one slightly crossed
are the wistful eyes
of this old, hopeful soul
I hear chaotic guilt and
empty questions recited
as the jumbled memoirs
of a lone stranger, lingers
on a time-worn pier
eyes like glass marbles
he scans his fishing line
God hears his prayers

I have been writing pieces for the magazine for two years and it is always a pleasure. Hotel has always been good to me. I feel like the magazine is a piece of home, I know you feel the same way. Big Hugs and thanks our friend.

Oh! I’m tired and misread the poem at first, that the stranger lingers like a time-worn pier! I think it was because of the photo, I imagined him skinny and upright like the poles… silly me. It’s a beautiful poem, and I love the last line. Linda xx

(PS – I enjoy reading your blog and really appreciate the time you take to interact with mine, so to say thank you, I did a shoutout of your blog on mine (hope you don’t mind): http://themindfulmigraine.blog/2024/07/17/half-a-year-old/)

Thank you Cindy for your kind words. I hope that you came home to two healthy dads and a healthy doggie. His brother is so beautiful too, with those different colored eyes. I am glad the baby did such a good job on her first flight. The second time my daughter flew when she was three, she was waving at the airport at her dad, and talking to the stewardess and as soon as the plane took off she was out of her seat and running down the aisle, yelling daddy. The crew was so kind, but she wasn’t happy when she realized it was just like a play trip. I am glad your granddaughter had fun. There was an author called SARK that wrote the greatest little colorful books, and I thought of you when you actually got to take naps on the beach. She wrote a whole book about the way to enjoy naps. I think you have more than earned a few naps Cindy. Many blessings and lots of love, Joni ❤️
