sauntering into class, why did love have to hurt
poreless skin tenderly opens her heart’s door
floundering in many endeavors trying to flirt
his smell, taste, how she ached for more
another daily meetup in detention
soon, departing early and to their tree
crime sprees rarely his or her real intention
bebee gun on damp leaves, now blissful and free
astute, awareness his home life is sadly neglectful
she shifts herself onto his lap, languid in time
shading his brilliance, he would be regretful
he quotes a poem to her, in perfect rhyme
next month I will walk unaided
another year and I am college-bound
tomorrow a new young man I’ll be and graduated
don’t worry darling, without me, you can’t leave this town
a dimwit I have been, hungry and embarrassed too
I passed my college entrance exam last year
don’t stew, my little darling, nobody knew
waiting for you, that’s why I’m still here
got my GED two summers ago
been saving up – even bought a car
everything is planned, I love you – you know
just a little faith baby, cause you and I are going far

You made me wait a long time to get to share a creative Collab with you Joni Caggiano..I love how you talked into teenage angst, and the feel I got reading this was the movie Grease, with Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. It seeps of nostalgia. Thank you for responding with such grace when I dropped the prompt on you. I know you’re super busy. I absolutely enjoyed this project with you, my friend. 🙏
