A Life of Jazz and Love

Poem by Joni Caggiano on August 18, 2021 – Photo by Vinicius Altava from Pexels

do you remember biting my bottom lip
we consumed one another bit by bit

you asked me if I loved you just a little
rubbing my smell on your hat, I played you like a fiddle

lifting me in the air with your arms
I drank a bottle full of your charms

I look in the mirror at my aging reflection
birds sing songs about life while dressed in perfection

jazz playing in the molecules of air
life with or without love is never fair

    1. Thank you so much for reading and commenting my friend. I am so glad you liked it. I have felt such sadness in my heart for those alone, especially anyone elderly. We are blessed to be loved indeed and share company with someone we love. Thank you Brenda. Hope you have an amazing weekend. ❤️🤗Love ya, Joni

    1. Thank you so much Francisco. I appreciate it very much. You are an amazing poet yourself. By the way I loved your video, original music and paintings of Diego Rivera. I also read a gorgeous poem. I wanted to ask a question from a successful artist and since you wrote about this I really am curious about your views on Frieda Kahlo. Do you think she just wasn’t as talented or that her work was in many ways full of sadness and disturbing images. I really appreciate and respect your opinions as it is obvious you are extremely well studied and a brilliant artist. When you can write just a couple of lines back to tell me as I am curious. Sending you both my love.
The water looks so inviting. ❤️🤗🦋😘🌺💐🌷Joni

      1. Thank you so much Joni, I always appreciate so much your time and your encouragement and kind words. I will tell you that although I am not a fan of Frida Kahlo, I do like some of her work. I just think that her name and image have been merchandised so much and her life romantisised so much that it has become a legend and she has become a martyr, and you know that martyrs sell. Her life, her work, and her personality as I have studied it and read it from her own diary, shows that she was nowhere near a feminist. She was completely submissive and subservient to Diego Rivera who mistreated her, cheated on her and let her know that he place was beneath him. She readily accepted it and you can see that in the paintings where she paints portraits of both of them together. He is always on the forefront, bigger, wiser and more important. It wasn’t just modesty that made her place her image smaller and always on a lesser level. Historically when painters painted religious scenes, they always painted the Saints, the Virgin and Jesus big and everybody else smaller around them and in a lesser compositional plane. Both Diego and Frida were very conscious of that as they themselves painted many “exvotos” (votive offerings). All I can say is that Frida Kahlo is not a top tier artist by any means and her life reveals that she was not a feminist and now she is, in my opinion, the “queen of merchandising”. I cannot say anything more. Hope that helps. You can read her diary and you will see for yourself the way she writes about herself and her undying love for Diego Rivera. And that love itself does not make her submissive, it is the abuse she took from him. Rivera who even had an affair with her own sister. And how she thought that was fine because she worshipped the ground he stepped on. I cannot understand how some people consider her an icon of feminism. Just because she went out and smoked, had affairs with women and posed naked? Could not that have been a reaction to Diego’s cruelty towards her?

      2. Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to explain this to me. I think I would fine it difficult to read her diary but I may. I agree that she put up with a horrid amount of abuse. I don’t agree with their affairs and I think your right about how she was likely acting out with many of her behaviors. Some of her work is difficult to look at For me. She has been merchandised so much. I noticed in her work she makes him bigger than life. He of course was a big man and she weight like 95 at one point. She and every woman deserves to be treated with respect but she didn’t respect herself. I did not realize that people thought she was a feminist. She was the opposite. He was very cruel. I think they both perhaps went out of their way to “get even or hurt one another.”
This all makes sense to me now. I appreciate your taking the time to explain this to me. I respect your study and promotion of lesser known talents that were gifted but not appreciated.

Thank you so much Francisco. I think after he slept with her sister she should have know he was capable of anything.

You two be blessed and thank you again. I believe you do a real service to the art world and that you honor women, life, creation, music and give thanks to God as well. You are something else as is your partner who works along side you promoting and caring about your gift. Love from us to the two of you. ❤️🤗🦋🙏

    1. Haha, you just made me smile. I love a great sense of humor. People don’t laugh enough these days. Thanks for that. Sending some love your way. ❤️🤗

  3. Dearest Joni, in your couplets of sensuality, memory and molecules of jazz in the air(I love this image) I feel transported into that black & white photograph…It puts me in this life, this scene that you have told so magically in your beautiful couplets of love. I have a Jazz/Blues Club in Second Life, in New Toulouse, circa 1920-1940.. I feel that you wrote this there…:) Exquisite! just as I expect from you:)❣️🤗🎶💃🏻❤️

    1. You say the sweetest things. You really touch my heart with your gracious words. You are so sweet to me. Karima you are so talented with what you and your team do that I am always so flattered by your lovely comments. Hope al is well. Sending lots of love your way. ❤️❤️🤗🦋😘

  4. Ah, the images here are so lovely, vibrant and rich! Great work, Joni!

I’m unable to see your posts in my reader so have turned on site notifications now. It’s happened with another blog I used to follow too (that I know of!) I wonder whether WP is misbehaving again!

    1. Thank you so much. I truly appreciate your kind words. I don’t know about that issue but every other site I go into, people I have been following forever it says I am not following. I just hit the follow and the enable button. I don’t know what caused that. Sending hugs and appreciation my friend. ❤️🤗🌺 love Joni

    1. Thank you dear Cindy. Marriage as you know is a complex relationship. You have to respect one another and support each other and care about the things they care about. Otherwise it doesn’t work very well. Sometimes fictionalization comes in to my post about marriage as I was married before and that marriage did not work. I have no regrets as I have my amazing daughter from that marriage. I am glad we both found marriages that were much more suited to one another. He has a great relationship with our daughter and I am grateful for that. My current husband and I have been together for 25 years. He is a decade younger than I am and I really believe that he has kept me quite young. I found that I was bored with men my age after divorcing and later dating. I still laugh till I cry with his sense of humor. I think being able to laugh is so important to a couple. Thank you for your sweet words Cindy. I appreciate you and I am very thankful for our relationship. Love you sweetie. ❤️🤗🦋💝

      1. You’re so welcome Joni and thanks for sharing your insights into marriage. I love that you have found a partner that makes you laugh, understands you and is younger. I totally LOVE that you did not conform to expected standards and followed your heart. It’s sooooo great you have a great working relationship with your ex and you both share the love of your daughter. Soooo awesome!!!!! Awww Iz appreciate you as well my dear friend that’s closer than far!💖💖💖
        Have a great day❣️

      2. Thank you my friend, this ended up in pending. You are such a sweetheart. I hope that you are not getting smoke this year from fires. You have such a beautiful yard and it is probably a blessing just to sit out there with family and friends. Southern people like to burn things you are not suppose to burn, like things with ink and wet stuff, things that will burn for days. I love watching a fire but it should be dried wood. Anyway I am about to go into your site and see what you were up to yesterday. Sending my love, my friend closer than far. xoxoxoxxo

      3. Oh you’re welcome my dear and thanks for digging me out. There is some smoke in the air and lots of people are having itchy eyes and allergies but not like lake Tahoe or clear lake where our lake house is thank god. But there are lots of fires just around and hope they don’t threaten. soooo sad and soooo scary. it does make beautiful skies alright. thanks for the love and wishes my friend that’s not so far away. 💖💖💖

      4. I am so sorry you have to deal with that my friend. By the way are you finding that you are having to follow people again that you have been following for years? That is happening to me with a lot of people, I don’t know what is going on there. Sending you love, stay safe my dear friend. Love you bundles and buckets, sweet sweet lady. xoxoxoxo Joni

      5. Thanks Joni! My heart goes out to those that are kissing their homes again! Hmmm I’m not sure, it’s bizarre how this goes in WP. So far I seem ok in that department.
Love you to the moon and back and thanks for your my dear friend! 💕

      6. I can’t imagine dear Cindy. I have an uncanny fear of fire as my mom would catch pans, and even kitchen cabinets on fire when she was drunk. I have said a prayer that you will be safe. I don’t want you to have to breath the smoke either as it is not good for you. Our world is yelling at us and people are not listening (I am not talking about you). I know you love our planet. Love you too sweetheart. Have a blessed weekend. ❤️🤗😘🦋🦋🥰

      7. Oh that’s a scary thought Joni!! it’s very scary and that would make it worse. I so agree with you and there is no reason to be talked about with people who don’t get it. While I could be frustrated I do my part and hope to make a invisible difference by learning from actions not words as it falls on deaf ears otherwise❣️ 😢 You do the same my love. ❤️🙏❤️

    1. Thank you sweetie. I am going in to see what wonderful things you have created. I am glad you liked my piece. Thank you Tiffany. I am sending you some big southern hugs. Love you Joni ❤️🤗🦋😘🌷🥰🌹

    1. Hello sweet friend, I don’t know why this comment went into my pending file but several did at the same time. So forgive this late response. Thank you for such a very kind comment it means a lot to me. I am sending gratitude for your support and lots of love. xoxoxo Joni
