My New Poem “Remembered” Now Live At Hotel Masticadores

“A Young Woman Writing a Letter” by Frans van Mieris (1635-1681) – Poem by Joni ©️2026

Remembered

candle wax drips like acid

inkwell dry, my letters crisp

ennoble the chaste grandeur

words wrap around my neck

like a quill and crimson shawl

sincere lexes, gilded stardust

heart lay bare, to accite one nameless

shalt one leave me in a country glade

where thou hast touched the lace

upon my neck, with ungloved hand

or would thy place me on a hill

where unsunned snow will reflect

pearls adrift as words render soft

A wonderfully creative and thoroughly engrossing piece of writing, Joni. The Early Modern English terminology gives it a Shakespearian tone, and your imagery is both delicate and fascinating. Words are a poet’s legacy and they will outlive us, rendering us immortal after a fashion. That’s pretty cool if you ask me. This is good stuff, my dear friend. 😊

Dearest Mike, Sorry I did not see this one the day I saw the comment on Hotel. You are very kind to post two different comments. I love the old english and found a dictionary online. The poem was based on the life of a book, where it might be placed and how it would be treated. Also, would I be remembered. I only hope we will be remembered as it is important for me to have made an impact with people throughout my life. I feel like Rape Victims I worked with, and a couple of patients I worked with and fought with the whole floor to get someone to call an on-call surgeon – Although I had to fight with and make enemies of several people the doctors later thanked me and told me that if not for my persistence the patient would have died. I made a difference there and hopefully in my daily life. I know you have with mine Mike and your poetry as well. I am so glad you enjoyed it, thank you for your kindness always, Mike. Big hugs and love from the both of us.
