My New Poem “A Gift” Now Live At Chewers And Masticadores

Poem ©️2024 by Joni – Sunset In Holetown, Barbados by Bruce Barrow on Unsplash

A Gift

I peel the night air off the fibers of my dress. His smells crack like paint on an old canvas. A rare gift from Barbados. His words travel up my spine with child-like anticipation. A gift, Hand-picked Sea Island cotton, his voice like the imposing breath of the cypress.

Mementos of time-worn nights when his warm hands zipped the gossamer-thin, delicacy up with feathery gentleness. Often love is like an ample nut within a shell that only shows itself as the shell softens. Imposing his muscular face would melt, like warm honey in my lap as I stroked his sleek black hair. Like tattooed braille, his surrendering words will forever enchain every pale inch of me.

I am so glad you liked it Timothy thank you. It was so nice to take a week from doing anything and relax. I hope you have been enjoying the weather and that it is nice where you live. It is so nice to listen to the silence and the birds here in VA. So peaceful, almost no traffic and know one close. I like it. When you have town just 15 minutes away where really you can get almost anything you would ever need, I really love it. Big hugs, love and blessings my friend.

      1. Lots of rain here, Joni, and a couple of nights below freezing. That’s Michigan. We’re about half a mile from a freeway, and the sound of traffic is almost constant, like surf at an ocean. 😊

Oh my goodness, I am sorry to hear that. You must have a very short summer there. I am guessing you get snow early in the winter and that it is very cold all winter. Our days here are already close to 80 some days but there is almost always a nice breeze. The wind blows a lot in the winter and I just pray that the big trees don’t fall on us. I love them though and it brings the wildlife. I assume work brought you there and that you have stayed. It is funny how that happened. We could have stayed in Seattle but I am glad we moved when we did to NC because the price of living is so high there that people have to leave their small homes because they can’t afford the taxes. To give you an idea we can get a whole bag of avocados for $3.00 where one avocado cost $1.50 in Seattle. I hope the cost of living is not too bad where you are. Hoping it warms up soon there, I bet you truly appreciate the summer when it comes. Sending lots of love and hugs and always blessings to your family. Joni
