Live on MasticadoresIndia, My New Poem “Noses Bleed White”

Street in Cosalá, Sinaloa, Mexico – Image courtesy of MexicoDailyPost.com – Poem by Joni Caggiano©️

dahlias budding in arid Culiacan
gold and silver shine in your sun
mines giving death to fledglings
evil rapes the earth, stealing her bounty
pacific wind blows humanity backward
as do closed eyes of stiff cartel
coke bleeds noses pink and scarlet
death calls naïve lovers in silk sheets

Wow, Joni. Coke! That insidious demon. This poem is incredible, truly. Made the little hairs on my arm stand up. I was reminded of a story I wrote last year called “Blow” (it’s sort of a herd of stampeding buffalo in contrast to your elegant ballet of flamingos!) but the damning message is the same. Gorgeous piece, luv. So glad it’s here on Masticadores. Well-deserved acknowledgment! 🌺

  10. This captures a sad reality.

    1. jonicaggiano says:

I suppose the mob and drug manufacturers are everywhere. It is sad to me that the people that live in Mexico have to deal with this kind of corruption. It is not their fault. Blessings my dear friend. I am sending you a big hug and a prayer this morning. Love, Joni ❤️🙏

  11. KK says:

This is a powerful poem, Joni. Love your imagery. Congratulations 🎉👏

    1. jonicaggiano says:

I feel so sorry for all the wonderful people that get in the way of the cartels and are killed or brought in to slavery, it breaks my heart. Most people just want to live a modest life and be blessed with their health. Those they can are blessed. Many are never given the choice. Sending you much love and hugs my friend.

      1. KK says:

This is such a sorry state of affairs, and it’s almost everywhere, but slavery is certainly the worst kind of evil in any society. I appreciate your kindness and empathy. Be blessed. Much love to you!

      2. jonicaggiano says:

I could not agree more. Slavery as of this year, 50 million worldwide are forced into modern slavery. You stay blessed my friend as well. By the way that statistic came from the international labor organization. 🌺🦋🤗🌹
