MY NEW POEM, “SUMMER LIE” NOW LIVE AT SPILLWORDS PRESS NYC

Photo by Pok Rie on Pexels.com – Poem Written by Joni Caggiano

SUMMER LIE

laughter, like sand sticks to us
an opening in my white, silk dress by a timeworn nail
gusts cool my bronze skin, like the resonant fluttering of angel wings
reality plays hopscotch with memories
sunshine caresses the thick fibers of your gold-flecked curls
cheeks flushed, ornamental stones hang from my scarf
scarlet hair tied loosely back
calluses on bare feet, chiseled with the maps of my stories
smells of vanilla, sandalwood, and coconut
socializing with the salty air

  2. As if it were a ritual, I walked through the covers of your words and found myself looking at the strength of your verses. The other words stopped sounding because your poem caressed my soul. That is how good it is to transform the thoughts of those who read you.
Good for you and your inspiration. A good weekend

    1. Oh thank you Francisco. I am so glad it gave you happy memories. It is always interesting just how incredibly intense every emotion is as a teenager or when one experiences what they think is love when young.

Thank you for your continued support my friend and best wishes to you and your wife as well. The temperature is in the high 80’s and low 90’s here. We take walks but it is hot. Still it is nice to get out and talk to neighbors at a distance and make sure families are all ok. We feel very blessed as I feel sure you and your wife do too. ❤️Joni

  3. I love it when you say ‘ reality plays hopscotch with memories.’ There’s this wonderful summer in the background and just awestriking words on the front. You evoke so many feelings from those lines which don’t even have a name. There runs warmth, peace and literally an enchanting spell of magic in the words. I absolutely love how you paint your words with amazing sensory details without lathering them in heaps of adjectives. Such clever use of images to literally turn the poem.
You have a very distinctive style, a beautiful choice of words, an emotion all throughout that is difficult to be given a name but wonderful to feel. You write so well .
It was a delight to go through your flight in the various pieces and they left a soft and serene calmness in me. I can’t even fit in the praises of your works and am probably repeating everything that has been said, but know that as I read your works I truly see an enchanting poetess who deserves so so much more. So so glad to be here. Peace and greetings from Sui generis 💛
    Yours admiringly,
    Shanyu.

    1. Well I am spell bound literally by your praise. I am humbled and brought to tears by your words literally. I can’t help the tears flow, for to know my words touched you in such a lovely way brings me such joy. I can’t describe, as a writer, what your words mean to me. I am a bit speechless.

“You have a very distinctive style, a beautiful choice of words, an emotion all throughout that is difficult to be given a name but wonderful to feel. You write so well .”

Please just know that your kindness in taking the time to read my poem and write this amazing comment has touched my heart so deeply. I am honestly humbled and blessed by your words.

Thank you my friend, you have already made my week very special and it is only Monday.

Love to you and your family and sending a basket of magnolias gathered by red threads, woven by silk worms and tiny fairy hands. Their fragrance will be of the sun and memories of young untainted love. ❤️💕

      Thanks again, love Joni

      1. Hey dear. It brings me absolute pleasure to have written to you. If it had not been a follow from your side, I wonder what amazing pieces of poetry I must have missed. My words might not have been very crystal clear but I hope my appreciation for your poetry was conveyed. Please keep writing and pouring your magic words in our veins. It is an inspiration for us to see you write so strongly.
I’m so so honoured to have this conversation and I hope I have played my part in making you smile. What better than changing the world one smile at a time?

It means so much to know how much I have touched you, and I hope my words will match the flamboyance of your creativity.
So a huge thank you for publishing great poetry and inspiring us.
In return of your wonderful magnolias, I am sending you a bouquet of red chrysanthemums sprinkled with pixie dust. I don’t know the fairy world quite well but I hope the thing makes sense.
Always a pleasure to be here and be reading and appreciating some wonderful talent.
I hope your week is filled with sunshine and warmth. May you find peace and comfort in these troubled time. May you stay inspired to write and may you play your part in making the world a better place.
And yes, may it be peace.

      2. Oh thank you for your words and yes you did convey your appreciation so beautifully. I am placing the chrysanthemums with their magical dust all over my house right now, some in every room. Thank you for that lovely delivery. I was just actually checking out your site and beginning to read your work and see you are an artist as well. I can not draw a stick figure. What a blessing to have both gifts. So wonderful to meet you here dear Shanyu. Love and appreciation to you. Joni

      3. You are so welcome Joni. It’s funny cause I’m doing exactly the same with your phenomenal magnolias. It means so much for me to have you here and I hope you have a wonderful read. You did pick out quite an old work of mine, but that’s where the treasure hides, no?
Yes, I love art and I believe anything that that isn’t a blank canvas is art. Absolutely anything. Even a stick man so as to say. After all poetry and art share that in common. That which meets the eye is not what sets your works apart. What goes into composing it is all that matters.
See? Your magnolias have really helped me think clearly.
I hope you like my poems and food stories. Happy reading!
Love and appreciation to you too.
        Hugs
        Shanyu.
