Touch

Suddenly I am awake.
Millions of black dots make
a nearly dark ceiling appear solid.
Staring at the tentacles
of the old southern fan
labored breaths strain for air.
Our dog is old, his anguish mine.
Transferring love onto my sweet boy
stiffness unwinding, easing under the love
my touch brings to his aging body.
In the center of my belly lies
my husband’s devoted hand.
I place mine upon his tenderly.
Large muscular legs rest across
my small lower limbs.
We fit together as one flesh.
Pursuing stars through an open window, I pray
for our world, all those sick or lost.
With the silence of my voice,
petitions whispered floating to my Father.
Finally, I melt into my peace and
the union of our life.
Sleep comes with the comfort
and promises God brings – I surrender.

  1. Beautiful, and I love how the peace transference goes both ways, as in real life. Our pets, whose unconditional love to us is much more like how God loves us than how people love each other, which is ALWAYS conditional (except Jesus, of course!). Well done and said!

    1. Thank you so much for your continued support of my blog. Your following and commenting on my blog means so much. I am so glad you liked it. I agree with what you said as well. Dogs give us unconditional love and God does as well thanks to Christ’s sacrifice. Sending love and hugs your way. Love ya Joni

  2. Honeybun this is stunning. It has a movie quality about it. It has a beginning and an end (the melting of love and blessings). Between the beginning and the end one finds poetic imagery skillfully used to tell a magnificent story: your story.
Joni, this is it! This poem needs to go in your poetry book. If you leave it here or not, it’s up to you. One way or another it needs to go in your poetry book.
    Splendid! I am in awe.
    Love and blessings sweetheart.

    1. Dearest Button I know that you understand that I would never ever ignore some ones sweet and loving comment. This is such a beautiful one and I will make sure this goes in a poetry book that I am sure I will write someday. I was having problems with my comments. I did not know that after you reach your limit, they literally fall off. So I have to start answering these on my computer which I don’t usually do, I like to use my phone. I also didn’t know you could actually be losing comments how upsetting. This is such a splendid one too, I wish I would have gotten it. I think I know what I have to do know to keep this from happening in the future but it is going to take some work and time. I explain below. Love to you my dearest Button, yours honeybun

My apologies, I didn’t see this comment until just now. I chatted with an accommodating person on WordPress for about an hour to understand how I could be missing comments.

I found out today that WordPress limits the number of notifications you can have (a relatively small amount that’s not configurable). If I don’t respond to comments quickly (which includes new posts on every site I follow), it is likely to drop off. This means I won’t see a comment at all, as I have reached my limit, and the comment drops off.

I should be able to bypass this limitation by checking the comment section of my WordPress account on the computer many times a day. Please accept my apology, and I sincerely hope you have a blessed and fantastic day!

    1. Dearest Francisco, please know that I would never ignore a comment from anyone. I feel terrible about this, you wrote this in April. I explain below what happened as I had no idea I had limited comment space and that comments fall off after a while. I did get some help with WordPress today and am hoping that people will be understanding. Thirty seven kind comments never answered. Anyway, love to you and your wife, sending her honey suckles from NC, they smell so good right now and I am going to throw in some magnolias as well. Please give her my love and you two take great care of each other. Love Joni

      1. I fully understand and it has happened to me as well but don’t worry, I know your lovely heart and your generous nature and what is important is that you know how much I, and all of us, appreciate and love your poetry and appreciate your posts. Take good care and stay safe, my love and peace to you both. 😊

      2. Thanks again my dear friend. I love what you said about the influence in your beautiful art that music has, it is like every part of you is melded into your gorgeous pieces and that is what I sense when I look at your work. Just amazing. You and your wife still probably can’t go to any shows yet. Hopefully your gallery is open to the public again. I imagine you sell a lot of sets. Your work would really need to fill a room. At least three pieces, I would think. Your work has such strength a person would want to decorate around your work. Have an amazing day you two. Love 💕 Joni

      3. Thank you so much Joni, your words are blessings and I am humbled by them. My wife does all the selling and the marketing and she’s doing pretty good considering what we’ve all gone through in the world, well, still not over but we have faith in God and always stay on the positive side. Take good care you and your husband and enjoy this day, Thursday, the middle of the week! Love and peace from the Mediterranean coast of Spain.

      4. Thank you my dear friend. What a blessing it is to have someone who you love selling your gorgeous work. I can’t imagine trying to sell my own work it is so personal. God really does take wonderful care of his followers. We will have a marvelous Thursday. Ours is just getting going and it is about 2:20 there. Have a truly blessed day. Sending you both rivers of Bougainvillea. Love to you two and I am happy to hear the businesses are still going well, what a blessing. 💕❤️Joni

    1. Dearest Sidharth, Please know that I would never ignore a comment from anyone. I am feeling so badly about this, I had 37 comments that never were seen. I explain what is happening in WordPress but I still feel horrible about this. Sending you lots of love my friend.
