My New Poem “Lies” Now Live On Hotel Masticadores

Photo and Poem by Joni ©️2026

Lies

gaze upon the bloodless moon, but do not profess to know her passion

touch my minikin self, yet know, it’s buds hold no words from my ink

alone, no one cares to cherish my heart, which hovers loosely upon

a thread woven by the larval stage of a moth, which treasures me

dare not contemplate to stroke my flesh without a note or invitation

for I am the pearl keys played backward, crickets, egrets, and hawks

share their chorus, devoid of permission from a forest long ago forsaken

tears stuck in the wax of the downcast magnolia leaf that has survived

millions of years, as the last beetle moves predictably with cold limbs

red ants burrow, for winter’s frost-bitten hand has spread its warning

dormant, sleeping trees rest while their fungal network provides safety

playful squirrels dart about, memory fails as they search for buried nuts

sun moves low but keeps one eye open, the wren is silent as it falls asleep

do you dare ponder what you stole from me with winter’s bitter cold

my safe place, silence slices pieces of my heart, now an icicle, truth be told

Dearest Maggie, How thoughtful to leave a comment on mine and Michelle’s site. I admire your strength and courage as well. I left a long message on Hotel but I know that you are helping others through your books. Wildflower, made me cry but it was like forming a bond as I read it with you, Maggie, and it is a beautifully composed book, full of tragedy but also full of hope and strength. Thank you so much Maggie for all you do, making yourself vulnerable in order to help others and to give others who are still in that situation hope for escaping and taking their life back. Love you

      1. Dear Joni, I am so grateful to you for buying my book.
Where Pieces of Me was raw, I wanted Wildflower to be more hopeful and to inspire others.
That is why you and I put ourselves on the line my friend, to help others.
We could have let our experience turn us hard and cold but we refused to let it.
I cannot say much about anyone who does not understand, I only hope it never happens to them.
        Thank you too Joni.
I wish you love and light always xo

Of course, and I love the book. In fact I will do a review as it touched me so deeply. I cried through some of it and some of those tears were happy tears but the book is brilliant. Yes, it did not leave us cold or heartless perhaps just a bit more careful of people but I think that is a good thing. I too, am glad that people don’t understand, that means that they have lead or been blessed to have lived without abuse. That makes me happy as I am sure it does you as well. All people and all women deserve to live their lives without abuse of any kind. Love and Light to you too, Maggie.

      3. Joni thank you for everything!
You are such a dear friend to me and I am so happy that we have connected.
Though I do believe that souls find the ones who align with theirs 🙏
Yes I still have some barriers up but I know I can trust and who is genuine.
You are one among so many other wonderful people on here.
It makes me cry when I hear stories of people still living with it 😪 exactly because we are all human and connected.
Thank you so much for doing a review, but please there is no rush.
I am more than grateful that you bought a copy 🤗

I have already read it, I started it and it was very difficult to stop. So next week I will write a review, I will let you know when it comes out Maggie. Many blessings my sweet friend. Yes, I too, believe that we are directed to like minded folks or people that have a light that may help us to shine even more. There are some beautiful folks on WordPress. We are fortunate to be part of this community. Have an amazing week ahead. Love and hugs, Joni

  2. You are the consummate artist, Joni. You capture perfectly the damage that can be done to a heart by lies. Chilling. Sending my love, A. <3

Hi Dearest Anna, Thank you so much for reading. I can only imagine the things you have heard over the years as an attorney my friend. As a survivor you know that lies and “make-believe” when you are the person of interest, can have a lasting effect. None of us should have to endure abuse or lies about the things that matter. I have never understood why people don’t believe their children – especially very young children. Thank you so much again for reading, as I know my work is hard to read but being “Women’s Month,” I wrote something about what does often happen to women but can certainly happen to young men or boys too. Blessings to you this Sabbath dearest Anna. Thank you during this month especially for doing all the advocate work you did as an attorney – helping to make this world a better place as I can only imagine the difference you made in the lives you touched. Love you!

  5. It’s great that your wonderful poetry is published at Hotel Masticadores, Joni! 💖🙏

    1. jonicaggiano says:

Thank you so much Timothy. I am thankful that Mich still publishes my work. I am truly spending time with my husband almost all day long and we are enjoying it so much. Time is short and we never know how long we have and we laugh till I cry most days, so I feel pretty blessed. We wish we could see the family more often but everyone is so busy. The boys are in sports and my daughter runs a company but we will get to see them in September and that will be a blessing indeed. Have a blessed Sunday and enjoy your family today, my friend.

      1. 😍🙏
