“Song Bird” now live on Hotelmasticadores

“Girl Reading A Letter At An Open Window”, Johannes Vermeer (1657) Public Domain

Whispering, your tongue holds back crestfallen thoughts.  Nails grip my thighs with the blinding voice of anguish.  Winter squalls belt my heartache.  Dusk’s eyeless shadows linger at open windows.  I tether my sensitivities to a fishing hook that hangs by a hair plucked from my head.

My wren and her heart-stopping song are lost.  Her mirthful call levitates and falls with a flawless tone. Scores of tenderness bleed into each fervently penned letter.

    1. Thank you for reading and for your kind words Mike. Congratulations on your nomination on Spillwords. I am so happy for you. Both your and Nigel’s poems were so beautifully written as I had read and voted for them when they came out. For the first time ever we had to slit our household votes, one for you and one for Nigel. We love you both and your beautiful work. Congratulations again. My love and hugs, your friend Joni

      1. Aww, thank you Joni! That’s incredibly kind of you and Scott. I’m pulling for Nigel–he’s on another level as a writer and a person, and I was so excited to see his poem nominated for Publication of the Month. A big thank you to both you and Scott for your kindness. 😊🙏

      2. Don’t underestimate your talent my dear friend. You are an incredibly gifted writer. Nigel is as well. Everyone has a different style and different type of talent. I think us writers are too sensitive and to quick to underestimate our on talents and tend to compare ourselves to others. No one writes like you Mike and no one writes like Nigel. You are both very talented. Enjoy your nomination. The first time I was nominated by SpillWords I was on cloud nine. So just keep submitting, they are a prestigious magazine. Everyone of us writers, or most of us have those same feelings. Nigel admires your poetry too Mike. I am happy for you both and grateful you both write for Masticadores on a regular basis. YEA!!!! 🙏❤️🙏💕

    1. Thank you Nigel. When I write straight from the heart which is most of the time Nigel, I pray first and let the words come. I hope that you have a blessed day filled with love my friend and inspiration. 🙏❤️🙏

    1. Thank you so much Tim. I am happy you have your beautiful owls to keep you engulfed in nature’s beauty. I miss the wrens. It was so strange the woman who bought our house was from Seattle area which is where we moved from. She has already moved out I am guessing for the same reason we left. Too much happening behind the thin row of trees left in the back where the construction is probably already starting. Sending big hugs and love to you all down by the beautiful Rio Grande. 🦉🦉❤️❤️

  1. So beautiful Joni, your words, very tender and flowing like the beautiful song of that drab little wren- thrush. This line was so visual, the whole poem really was but this line touched me , » I close dry orbs that now bind to their lids. » I felt this line, I felt my eyes drying up now bound to my lids. Such powerful, suggestive imagery.
Nature, loss, emptiness and finally hope are all found in your words. It’s a gem of a poem Joni and many congratulations on being published at Hotel:):) Much love to you always ❤️

    1. Oh thank you Karima. What kind and thoughtful comments. I really appreciate every word. I am glad you saw all of those things in this piece my dear friend. Great big hugs. 🤗 love you

    1. Dearest Belladonna how are you doing? I saw that you did some posts earlier so that tells me you are probably doing all those great things you encourage us to do make ourselves feel better. I am so looking forward to catching up with all my dear WordPress friends that I have lost touch with as I never stopped loving them, life has a way of getting in the way sometimes. Be sure to send us your son’s football schedule when it comes out. I hope he is doing well and it sounds like he is already settled in. What a blessing you must be so very proud of him my dear friend. Sending you some big hugs and my love always, Joni (PS we are about to go for a walk which I have not done for a while and I am going to start making time for so be sure to give me a star for the day my friend – and don’t ever stop encouraging us to better ourselves.)

      1. Thank you sweetie. Yes it was beautiful and so warm and today the same way. I want to increase my steps everyday. It is just something you have to take time to do. Big hugs and blessings to you and your family my dear friend.
