My New Short Story “Last of Her Kind” now live on MasticadoresIndia

My leather dress clung tight to tired, wet skin.  At almost seven-foot-tall, I was a woman that obtained attention around humans far too quickly.  Thin, my shoulder blades stuck through just below my long, cylindrical neck.  It will be my last visit to say goodbye to a family of humans called the Simons.

Every year my lifelong love and I traveled to California to swim and play with their two children, Sam and Sarah.

Beloved was my mate Bjorn.  He and I were childless, so we loved the parents and the two children as if they were our kind.

Voyaging far in the wild sea with eyes as green as the kelp that floated about the ocean floor.   My hair was as long as my tail, which was the longest in our clan.  The males were envious of this, as it made me easily the fastest swimmer.

    1. Thank you so much, Nigel, for reading my story. I used to dream of being a mermaid when I was little and got to swim in my Aunt’s pond. I am really glad you enjoyed it, dear friend. Have a truly blessed day. Big hugs, Joni

    1. Thank you so much KK. I appreciate you reading my story, it takes a while to read a story and I know people are busy. Terveen has really encouraged me to write short stories and I have learned so much from her. She is a kind human being. They are a bunch of very kind editors, my experience with all three English sites have been delightful. You should submit some of your beautiful work sometime. The process is not hard. Anyway I love your work, there is almost always wisdom and definately something that causes one to stop and think. Blessings to you and lots of love and happiness my friend. 🤗

      1. Thank you so much, Joni, for your lovely words and advice. I have never sent my work to any other site. I remain busy with my own site, but I’ll see. I appreciate your words and advice. You’re really great, as you write exceptionally well and I always admire your skill and knowledge. Keep writing, Joni! All the best 👍💖💐

      2. Thank you, my friend. You have a lot of wisdom to share with folks, and the way in which you share is beautiful. You know MasticadoresRomania is also English. All three English publishers are so kind and so thoughtful. The submittal process is not difficult either. I always send you lots of love, hugs, and blessings, my friend. Joni

      3. Thank you, Joni for your beautiful reflections that I always appreciate. You’re more than welcome, my friend 😊💖

    1. Tim, you are a sweetheart, as always. Kind of a different tale of a story, but wonderful to know that someone with no blood family left can always bring love to others. Thank you for the kind reblog, I saw that you had done so, which was so kind. We have been very busy here and still have a lot of hard work getting packed and a bit more to do to the yard. The house looks new. We hope to be headed to the mountains in Virginia if we can’t find a reasonable place to buy outside of the Seattle area. Sending you and the family hugs, love, and blessings. Joni

  1. I just loved this story Joni, how you wrote and developed it and especially how it flowed into the perfect ending of total continuity. Your prose writing is so natural, as it weaves all the elements into a beautiful, magical, yet plausible tale. I felt uplifted and envied the Simon family just a little bit, for having this great presence close to them from generation to generation. Congratulations dear Joni on such an uplifting piece and for publishing it here. It is a very special one indeed.

    1. Thank you so much for reading my piece so closely and understanding what a blessing the family was to her after the loss of her significant other. Thank you for all your beautiful and kind words about my writing too Karima. Terveen has been helpful and so supportive in helping me to hang in there and work hard on my stories. She is a wonderful mentor. Blessings to you my dear friend. Sending you lots of love. 🦋🌹🌟❤️🎈❤️

    1. I am so glad that you enjoyed it, my friend. Thank you so much for reading. Wishing you nothing but love, happiness and many blessings. Big hugs, Joni

    1. Thank you so much Cindy. It is a strange thing how I think we don’t think about animals and creatures we don’t know that much about even how much they might now and just how smart they may in fact be. I was hoping to make people think twice about all the life in the sea and the trees. I know how much you love trees too Cindy. Big hugs and love, Joni
