Lonely Children

Poem by Joni Caggiano – Photograph Pixabay (40 second read)

Trees wrap resilient arms tenderly around small children, who are crying out for hugs—haunted by lost memories of holding hands of friends and delivering laughter with loved ones they no longer see. Like fledglings with young minds, they wonder why the world they know, without warning, is experiencing a metamorphosis.

Clapping and swinging their long and formidable arms, the forest becomes their friends. When heaven’s stars are dim, fireflies, fairies and blue butterflies play their enchanting but vital part—emerging in abundance, creating lit paths for little ones to walk, while surrendering soft prayers. Blue notes play songs of appreciation as flutes and trumpets send soft blows into sheer rapture.

Nature’s heart drifts within vivid yellow silken threads holding notes as they travel in hot air balloons reaching all those who feel lonely. Many rooms are red and yellow from sunset blessings. Loving parents sail on homemade boats with their little ones, traveling to places so exquisite and picturesque that tears from poets supply dry river beds with cerulean waters.

This poem is dedicated to all the children in our world who are missing their friends, teachers and visiting their loved ones. It is especially dedicated to my beloved grandchildren. I love you Richard, Jerry and Kervenson. Love and blessings to all the children of our world. Joni

You too, my friend, although I am not expecting to see too many trick or treaters. Just what I needed something else sweet to eat. Sending lots of love and extra hugs for the weekend. Joni

So nice of you to write such a nice dedication to these children. The distancing and separation has been tough and I send them joy to. 🌻

    1. jonicaggiano says:

Oh thank you my friend. You are right I can’t imagine how afraid children are who don’t have parents that ate loving and kind. Thank you for your sweet comment. I also feel badly for parents who have to work but must provide schooling for their children. It is very difficult. The teachers are doing the best they can with a crazy situation too. We appreciate our educators so much. Hope your family is well and you are blessed. Love to you and all your loved ones. 💕❤️🌸Joni

Lovely thoughts, well expressed through beautiful images.

    1. jonicaggiano says:

Oh thank you Stuart I really appreciate you reading. I worry about children being mistreated by abusive parents. This is such a difficult time for so many families. Love to you two my friends. 💕❤️🤗Joni

      1. stuartaken says:

I suspect that many parents who do this, like the spouses who beat their partners, see their offspring/partner as a possession rather than as an individual with rights and a life of their own.

      2. jonicaggiano says:

Absolutely my friend. They also isolate their children. We lived by a couple on Mercer Island close to Seattle when we first move there. We could see through one of our windows one night that this man was beating up this woman badly. We immediately called the police. They had literally moved out and were gone the next day. The same thing happened years later in WA when a little girl showed me her bloody knees from being in a pile of salt on her knees for hours. She also was beaten harshly and she showed me the bruises on her legs. I called CPS, before they could get there they too had moved out. That child was in my heart for years. You two be blessed my friend and stay very safe. Love you both. Joni 💕🌹🤗

  10. Oh so heartfelt! You have touched on the hearts of many latch key children of the 1970s and 1980s. I am choked up. Your writing is beautifully therapeutic. Love 4 the understanding of love to you Joni! 🙏💗🌺🍃

    1. jonicaggiano says:

Thank you for your gracious and thoughtful comments.
“ I am choked up. Your writing is beautifully therapeutic.”

Thank you dear friend. Sending love, hugs and blessings. 💕❤️😘🦋 Love Joni

      1. Hi Joni what was your inspiration to write on the lonely children concept?

      2. jonicaggiano says:

Kids get confused and don’t really understand what is going on. When I was home I was vulnerable for terrible abuse.
I hope to encourage children to play outdoors and to use their imaginations like I did. I believe that God and his angels are close to children. Watching over them, God’s nature is more a live than we realize. Thank you for asking me my friend. Love you sweet friend. 🤗💕❤️☕️☕️☕️

      3. I have been thinking to write a book about children’s relationship with God. ☕️🍂💗☕️

      4. jonicaggiano says:

That is a really wonderful idea my friend. Because we are honest and untainted as little ones we can get so very close to God where adults struggle to find that place. It would be an amazing book. You should go for it my friend. Hope all is well, Love you Joni

      5. I thought about it for a long time. I had this phobia as a child. Not funny either. I thought Germans were all pilots and flying over where I lived. And then came the German measles, and German shepherds. All of this German business destroyed my appetite for German chocolate cake!🥵

      6. jonicaggiano says:

Oh I am so sorry. Living in any kind of fear as a child is so painful and has a cost. I feel these day’s have been scary for our world but I will continue to pray. Love you my friend.
I wish I could make you a wonderful cake. 🤗💕❤️😘Joni

      7. Scary for sure are these times. No German Chocolate cake please, i understand that atomic bombs are inside them!

      8. One child walking with Mom saw a caterpillar pointing and told mom, “ look at that eyebrow”! Children have imagination from fear, loneliness and curiosity. All are amazing!❤️🍃💕☕️☕️

      9. jonicaggiano says:

Oh that is so sweet. That sounds like a child, I love that. Bundles of love coming your way. 🤗💕❤️ love Joni

      10. Sending you sunshines of smiles into your day! 🎼☕️☕️☀️🌈

    1. jonicaggiano says:

Thank you dearest Button. I am glad you enjoyed it my friend. Hope you had some rest this weekend. A teacher or professors job is never done and add an author’s job to the patch and well – you should be sleeping in, my friend, eating chocolates and maroons in bed. Then a bubble bath and a great view of the beautiful leaves turning on the trees. Get some rest dear Button. Love you 😘🦋🤗💕❤️🌹🌷honeybun (J)

      1. My pleasure my dearest honeybun. Perhaps after Thanksgiving. If I make it 🙂
        Love you hon
        xoxo

      2. jonicaggiano says:

Hang in there I have a feeling that it is all going to turn out wonderfully. You may be able to just write for a living wouldn’t that be wonderful and you could live in Spain or any where you wanted. You could speak at conference as the guest speaker and write. I really hope you can do that soon. I have good feelings about your future being full of the things you love.
        Love you Button.
        Yours,
        Honeybun 😘🦋🦋🤗💕❤️

      3. Joni, you are a sweetheart 🙂

    You puzzled with words🙂

    1. jonicaggiano says:

Thank you so much for reading. It is a tribute of sort to children during this difficult time. How nature can provide so much love and entertainment for children if they just see the beauty in God’s creation. I hope this helps. Love ❤️ Joni
