live on masticadoresusa, my new piece “Reflection”

Reflection

White is the oval mirror of my exodus from the fearsome actions of the monsters in the red-brick house.  Dark eyes blister as my heart pulses a bleak opus once again.  An offering given by a stranger concealed with golden paper and wildflowers singing.  After five years of her pleasure, I perceive the wonder of the gift and grasp the stranger’s identity.  Such a beautiful thing I had never seen.  Her face was an alluring light, blazing like the sun, for she was an angel.

Gazing intently into the mirror, I quickly initiate the smooth passage of her gelatinous cavity. My slip is now a glowing covering of layer upon layer of silk worthy of a queen.  Greetings take place from the mermaid who visits from the pristine waters. Her voice comes forth like a rainbow of colors.  Purple periwinkle smells of freshly baked cookies. Humans with incandescent wings sit on green moss that never stops humming.  Sacred is the knowledge the purple birds share as they fly in this world of peaceful beings.

  1. I commented at the other site but wanted to say here that you speak for many of us in this piece, Joni. Your means of self-expression are a wonderful to behold. Such beauty, pain and truth. Well done, my friend. 🙂

    1. Oh thank you Mike, what a very kind thing to say. Your comment truly touched my heart and I appreciate it coming from such a talented poet. Blessings, hugs and love my friend. 🌹

    1. Thank you so much Tim for reading. By the way it did get to 80 yesterday and will be 82 today, meanwhile snow is covering the mid-west. We had better count our blessings. The critters and insect are going to be confused again. Big hugs and love to you two. Joni ❤️

      1. Our high was in the mid 30s yesterday with high winds blowing all day. The wilnd broke a power line on a pole in the NE corner of our property We didn’t get power restored until 11:30 pm last night. 11 hours without power. Needless to say, we had a cold house. It’s suppose to warm up to the mid-50s today.

      2. The weather is just so insanely crazy. I hope you didn’t lose your freezer or refrigerator items. I am guessing with all the beautiful land, you have a generator. I bet you are so happy to leave work and go home to your piece of paradise at the end of the day. I am glad nobody got hurt. We always play cards with candles when the power goes out here. I hope the new location is working better for your business and that you are enjoying it, a nice looking place. Big hugs, Joni

      3. Freezers and fridges are good. We did not open them. The house was don to 50. We keep the house in the mid 60s, so 11 hours without heat with cold winds and freezing temps cooled everything down.

      4. Wow, I bet you guys got cozy. We do the same thing, and Scott puts frozen bottles of water in the freezers, so by not opening the doors, those ice packs keep things frozen. I am glad you guys did ok. Last plastic bottles that we purchased years ago. We recycle everything and compost everything we can and I am sure you two do the same. Blessings my friends, love Joni

    1. I am so glad, Nigel, and I hope it was all you and your family thought it would be. That makes me very happy to hear. I am glad this touched your soul Nigel. That brings such happiness to hear. Thank you, my friend. I hope everyone is feeling blessed there with you, I am guessing they are indeed. Big hugs and my love to you and your family, especially today!

  2. The tears this piece renders, first for what was endured 💔- but equally for the beauty and scope of this young and incredible imagination which provided an escape into another world, however brief. This is a true gem, like all of your work – and like you. ❤️

    1. My dear friend you have truly been on my mind. Thank you for this gracious comment. I cry reading other poets work but I am always so touched when my work renders tears. Thank you Jill. I will have you and your family in my prayers for a wonderful gathering of relatives this weekend. Love you 🥰 🤗🙏

    1. Dear Anna how are you my friend. Life is so often both which is so very sad. The joys God gives us is the blessings and the promise something that keeps us going. Love you sweet Anna. Big hugs and love, Joni 🦋🌹🙏🌻

  3. I left a comment on Masticadores. Wonderful fantasy, but the ending is all too real. I don’t say that as a criticism but as a sad fact of life for so many children. You captured it well.

    1. Thank you so much for your comment. I appreciate what you said. Thank you. It is crazy how many children resort to fantasy to stand their life and get through it. It was very real for me. I would never take anything you said as a criticism, Dawn, as you are far too kind for that. Blessings and hugs to you and your family. Joni

    1. Thank you so much for reading, and I appreciate your gracious comment. I love to write about the methods I used to escape the crazy childhood I had. I am sending you lots of good wishes, love, and hugs. I hope your week is blessed. Joni

      1. Thank you very much, Belladonna. What a very thoughtful thing to say. Sorry, it has taken so long to get back to you. Keep sharing your wisdom and information with us too. We are never too old to learn something new. Sending big hugs and blessings, Joni
