do not presume to know me

my face a frowning moon

crevices of sadness besmear

a hoary soul who wonders here

      1. Just saw your beautiful Anthology “Sound of Brilliance,” on The Edge of Humanity. Yea!!! Such a beautiful book and so many lovely pieces throughout its pages. I was so proud to be a part of this book. Thank you Susi. ❤️🤗🦋 Love Joni

      2. You’re very welcome, Joni! Thank you for the hugs, can always use them! 🙂 Life is good at the moment, hope the same for you!! <3

    1. Thank you so much Tim. I look sad and angry I think. We always looked perfect but there was nothing that was perfect on the inside of our house. Thank you Tim. You two stay safe. ❤️🤗🦋

  1. Although this poem breaks my heart, I am so glad to see it published. Through your bravery, you raise awareness and give strength to other victims of abuse ❤️

    1. Thank you Ingrid I appreciate your kind words. My blog is an ACOA blog as many children and teenagers who are very isolated (which many are) the first step is discovering that you are not alone. I still remember when I first discovered why I was so afraid all the time, “waiting for the ceiling to drop.” Then you can start to heal. ❤️

  2. Profoundly sad yet beautifully expressed Joni! ❤️😁👏 Poignant reminder to us all to never judge a book by it’s cover. I really admire your honesty and evocative imagery & use of language! 😁👏👍

    1. Hello wise one you are so special. Please don’t feel sad for me. I broke the cycle. My daughter is a beautiful, educated woman who loves her mother very much. She calls me her Mamacita. I sm sure people thought I was crazy because I talked to God all the time even in the middle of class in the second and third grade. He kept me safe. Love you Colleen, I am so grateful you are part of this community. Bless your sweet heart ❤️

      1. I am so glad to know that you broke the cycle. I can’t help but go back to the littles, even knowing when the outcome is so beautiful. So many of the bad things in life are not in our control or preventable. But SO much caused pain is preventable. That’s what makes me sad.

Thank you for being a light. ❤️

      2. You are both wise and a sensitive, kindhearted human being Colleen. I do know what you mean. There are so many children in slavery, being molested and abused every single day in our life. Children are innocent and should be cherished and protected. Thank you for being so kind and loving. ❤️🤗🦋🙏 love Joni

  3. Well…God. That says it all. Powerful. So raw. Gut punch. Perfectly penned, as all-ways, beautiful Joni! Congratulations!!! Happy New Year!!! Sending HUGE hugs Your way!!!!!!! 🤗❤️🌟💖😊

    1. Oh thank you my dear talented friend who I have missed. Check you email in about an hour my friend. So wonderful to hear from you. I think about you a lot. Sending my love giant hugs and love. The fairies are on their way as well, they have missed their dates with the dragons. As soon as they saw your text they were jumping up and down and packing their little tiny suitcases. They told me they would see me when they see me. Better set your table for about 20, granted they can eat off of a snowflake, they are just looking forward to seeing you and the dragons. Love you Katy!!!!

      1. My pleasure, sweet Joni!!! And AHHHHHH! That explains where all my cookies disappeared to and all the crumbs sprinkled about!!! Love You, too!!! 🤗💖😊

      2. Yes it definitely does my very talented friend. My heart has missed your beautiful work and most importantly your lovely spirit my friend. Love you right back again. ❤️🤗

  4. Congratulations Joni! A most beautiful work on such a tragic topic and as well one that needs to be spoken of and resolved. With our love to you both!
    Francis

    1. Thank you dear Francis. There are so many more wonderful resources now than when I was growing up. I did not repeat the cycle. I am sending you both one great big NC hug. You are right also the trees are now covered with ice as is the road. We are staying safe, warm and inside. Sending you both our love. ❤️🤗🦋

      1. You’re very welcome Joni. We’re glad to hear you both are safe, home and warm. Hope you have a lovely week ahead and we too send big hugs 🤗 and our love ♥️

      2. Thank you so much Francis. The sun is shining and we received a beautiful surprise today!!! We are feeling so happy and particularly blessed this morning. A day to “Dance,”. Love to you both!! ❤️❤️🙏

    1. Thank you Jeff. It is something that happens in our society every day in thousands of homes and people just need to be aware. Thank you for your kindness and support Jeff. Sending my love. ❤️🤗🦋

      1. You’re welcome, Joni. Always. Indeed, unfortunately it does. Completely agree about awareness. Thank you for the love. ❤️🦋🤗🌻🥰

  5. Hello Joni! What a touching share. During our formative years, we absorb a lot of what we do not understand and like a flower, the truth blooms into realities that bear witness to our resilience. You are a flower made of gold! 🙏☀️🌼☀️💞

    1. Oh what a very kind and thoughtful thing to say. What a blessing you have been to my day. Thank you and sending you lots of love, hugs and prayers for blessings. ❤️🤗🦋🥰💝

      1. Thank you so much dear friend. Sending you blessings for the new year forward with yummy pastries covered with fresh fruit and walnuts and delicious brews…. 🥮🥮🍮🍮perfect comforts for your morning writes. )))❤️(((

      2. Boy that sounds amazing. Glad breakfast is already taken care of. Sending appreciation, hugs and always the best brewed. ❤️🤗🦋☕️☕️☕️☕️

  6. So proud of you Joni to be published yet again, this makes my heart sing for you. You are such a gift from God, you have endured so much trauma, yet you are kind, thoughtful, talented & loving to so many, it is a blessing right here on earth. I am so thankful for our friendship, sisters now, & just enjoy so much reading your work & the feedback. Your “Crazy Cat” looks just like my sweet neighbors cat, who is named “Wildcat”, maybe that is why I felt like I knew this kitty before he decided to visit me daily for a treat. Please stay safe, warm & healthy! Much love.

    1. Hello my dearest Janet. Thank you always for your prayers, support and your love for so many years now. We are sisters in all the ways that matters. Things have been a bit crazy lately we will definitely have to catch up
soon. Thank you for reading my work Janette. You are my tender hearted sister. I love you ❤️ give Mark a big squeeze and my love too. 🧚‍♂️🧚‍♂️🧚‍♂️🤗❤️

    1. Tiffany what a precious gift your kind comment. I don’t know why some comments end up in places they shouldn’t I am just grateful people understand when this happens. What a sweet and loving thing to say. I love and admire you also sweetie. It is a good feeling to make a goal for something when you first start out and to accomplish or to get there. There is a lot of boldness in The Edge of Humanity and I think you and I both are not easily reined in. By the way my friend you should check it out because they are looking at photographs (which you have beautiful photographs and art) You should send them a few pieces. Sending you lots of love and seriously Tiffany you should feel proud of what you do while working a job. I wouldn’t be able to do that. xoxoxoxo

  7. Dear Joni,
I remember this piece well and it is such a beautiful raw, true poem.
I’m thrilled for you getting the deserved recognition at The Edge of Humanity Magazine!
Truly a affirmation of your life work! 💖💖💖👏👏

    1. Oh Cindy thank you so very much. You are making my day sweetie with all your many lovely compliments. Yes, ever since I started writing my blog, my goal was to someday be published there, and I have been twice now. This was about two years ago I saw their magazine and I was so impressed by the quality of their content. This was before any of us knew about MasticadoresUSA and MasticadoresIndia. I am very grateful to be published there too believe me. Sending my love 🤗❤️🦋

      1. You’re so welcome Joni! It is a huge feather in your cap and reaching one of your goals is huge. I loved the piece then and I love it now. Can’t wait for more. 💖💖🌈🌈🌈🙏
