Troubleshooting Tips

Dear Friends,

After a long and helpful chat with WordPress, I suggested creating a troubleshooting post with some tips. I could also ask my WordPress family if they could answer some questions that might be helpful – they agreed that it would be beneficial for their effort as well.

If you have had any trouble with my site or perhaps other WordPress sites, please post a comment, letting me know what type of problem you have experienced. WordPress suggested the following points, saying it would also be helpful for a known issue they have seen. They have been incredibly kind and patient when I have asked them to help me troubleshoot.

● There is a known issue when trying to like posts using Safari on macOS 10.15.7
● We want to measure to what extent this affects your site and followers
● You are welcome to report any unexpected behavior in the comments or directly to WordPress.com by going to https://wordpress.com/help

WordPress has also made some good suggestions about things that you can try as potential workarounds:

● Turn off any ad-blocking software you may be using for WordPress sites
● Try clearing your browser cache and closing and restarting your browser
● Try changing browsers – WordPress recommends using Chrome (https://www.google.com/chrome/)
● If you are using a VPN, try turning it off for WordPress sites
● Verify that you are using the most current version of your browser and operating system (i.e., macOS, Windows, Chrome, etc.)

Thank you so much for your help, know how much I appreciate you. You are all a part of my WordPress family.

Love Joni

  1. WP has had issues with newer versions of Safari for a long time. While I can comment and like most sites through the reader, there are WP sites that don’t allow doing likes and comments through the reader, I often cannot like or comment directly on their WP website, either. That is mostly the case for people who have independent WP sites hosted by an independent service, not WordPress.

    1. Hi Tim thank you for your time and for sharing this information. I really appreciate it. I have switched to Chrome and no longer use Safari. Hopefully this will help them troubleshoot some of these issues. I am using chrome now and I can hit the like button and it doesn’t necessarily stay. After I comment some times the button turns off again. So I know what you are talking about. Thank you for helping Tim. You are kind to take the time to respond. Sending lots of love to you both. You two enjoy your Sunday.
      Love ❤️ Joni

    2. Very keen observation, Timothy, about the WordPress sites hosted on a third party service. Thanks for the helpful tip! 🙏❤️

      1. You are welcome, SB. I figured out that WP was not keeping up with changes in browsers when I had to fire up an old 2008 Mac Pro with El Capitan OS and an old version of Safari. All the WP issues I have with in the recent versions of the Mac OS and current version of Safari worked perfectly on the out-of-date Mac OS and Safari.

Keeping up with changes in browsers can be a scripting nightmare. In my opinion, WP developers are putting too much time into the Block Editor, that I despise, and not enough time in to keeping up with changes in browsers.

      2. Wow! That’s above and beyond, you should be working for WordPress 🤓You’re right, Apple’s more recent changes incorporate more security into their OS and Safari, that’s probably why WordPress recommends Chrome.

BTW, your photography is awesome, thanks for sharing your tips and your talents! 🙏❤️

      3. I use Firefox most of the time. Firefox is a good compromise. It’s secure and flexible. I’m happy you like my photos.

    1. Hi sweetie hope you are having a great weekend. You are welcome. Hope you have a blessed day and sending you my love. Thanks for reading. Love and hugs Joni ❤️🤗😘🦋💕

  2. Kind of you to share the information. The only time I had a problem, they were gracious and quick to help me find a resolution. This will save some people a great deal of frustration.

    1. Thanks Brad I am happy to hear it. They are dealing with all kinds of technology so their job is difficult but they are very helpful as you said. Thanks so much and have a truly blessed day. Sending lots of love and hugs. Happy to hear you are not experiencing any issues too. ❤️🤗😘🦋 love Jonikins

  3. Good timely post Joni. There have been some weird WordPress troubles as of late…1) Blogs I have been following for years all of a sudden have no posts. I assume they are on a break, but the break goes on. I check and find that there are lots of posts but I am no longer following the blog (I did not unclick it). I click the follow button and all is right. 2) My readers have advised me that the same has happened to them on my site and I know I did not click unfollow on their follow. 3) Some of my scheduled posts are not appearing in Reader immediately at publish time. I check if I have clicked the stick to the top of blog box and entered date and time correctly. If so, I edit the time for 5 minutes earlier and click update and they appear. 3) If you want to make sure readers read your replies to their comments, you need to click the Like button on their comment. Thankfully, a reader gave me this news a few months in. I do agree about the browsers. I tried valiantly to use Edge and found it was more and more of a problem. Since I switched back to Chrome, Worpress sites are far more responsive. It is definitely a learning process. Have a great Sunday Joni. Allan

    1. Allan thank you so much for taking time to leave this very detailed and involved answer. I won’t forget this kindness. It is frustrating and hopefully some of these issues can be better addressed after WordPress looks at these comments. They do have a crazy hard job but I am hoping that this might help them and that they can somehow see if there is a fix for some of these problems. I am sorry to hear about your specific situation and hope things get less troublesome. I too have issues with the not following button somehow changing and that is upsetting. Thanks again and you have a great Sunday too. Hugs 🤗 Joni

      1. oh thanks so MUCH Joni… It has been a fun change of pace with my niece and her son running around but now I’m drifting off to la a land..xoxoxo❣️❣️❤️🙏

    1. I am glad to hear it Francisco. With the constantly changing/updating of browsers there are massive amounts of troubleshooting that WordPress has to constantly work on. Using the latest version of Crome has definitely helped, it is their preferred browser. Love, peace and happiness to you two as well and thanks for your support my friend. ❤️🤗😘Joni

    1. You are so welcome Anna. They can be. I know WordPress has their hands full. I don’t know how they keep up with all the revisions to operating systems. It would be a very difficult job. They have really been kind and trying to help. I thought this might help a bit, both us bloggers and WordPress. ❤️🤗😘

  4. Hi Joni, I still have trouble posting on your blogs sometimes. Most of the time I work it out. I remember the “clean your cache” phrase. I have my computer set to clean it every time I close and I shut down every night. You are so sweet to do this. Take care and sending love.

    1. I too still occasionally get an error message when I try and leave a message for you. I am glad that your troubles are getting better. Bless you my friend for taking time to answer this. My neck has been really hurting for about ten days now so I have limited time reading and writing. Have to have injections and then possibly a disc on Oblation where they go in and burn the nerves on my C4,5, and 6. Yikes sweetie sounds nasty. Getting older is a pain. I told the Neurologist I was doing insanity with my husband five times a week. He thought I was nuts. Well obviously I can’t do that. Still trying to stretch and ride my incumbent bike six times a week for an hour.

Sending you my love. It is kind of you introducing other bloggers to the community. Love ❤️ ya and have a great evening.

  5. Hello Joni, how are you? The problem I have is selecting follow each time I visit certain bloggers’ sites, other bloggers have said the same.Thank you for having such a caring heart to take on this task. Have a great day/night and remain safe.

    1. Tangie, I am doing well my friend. I appreciate your input and hope that it helps. Yes you are not the first to say you are having trouble with this issue. People’s feelings get hurt too if they think they have been unfollowed. WordPress has an enormous job and they thought this might be helpful when I suggested it. I think they work very hard and have been very responsive to me. Perhaps this will make a difference, I do appreciate again, you taking your precious time to provide input. Sending you lots of love and prayers for blessings. I have had my vaccinations and am doing well, blessings to all your family. Love Joni xoxoxo

  6. Hello dear Joni and thank you for the wisdom. I hope you and the family is doing well. I have been busy. Working. I will finish number one of six stories tomorrow. The crying woman. I am editing and and putting to computer. I hope you are enjoying the days of Summer.

    1. Hi my friend, it is great to hear from you John. That sounds wonderful. You have been very busy, great for you. I am enjoying my summer. Looking forward to reading your work. Love and hugs ❤️🤗😘💕Joni

    1. You are so very welcome. The idea was to help users and WordPress as they have a lot to constantly update to changes and revisions in browsers. I am so glad to hear that. I hope that will help any issues that you may have been having. I hope you are having a wonderful day and that it is filled with sunshine and lots of love. xoxoxxo Joni
