His Love is Far Reaching

Poem by Joni Caggiano – Photo by Kris Sevinc – Unsplash (a 36 second read)

pounding heartbeats, the torrid sun drying blue blood, which drips

as silently as Damascus sighs, my blood rides on the Crimson-winged Finch

in the Holy Lands, we sit in the shade of the immense fig tree,

meeting me here too long ago, a human turning inside out,

each time you touch my lines where a tan does not exist

life chases us, our bodies now inside out, like the fig so luscious

it hides its bright red flower inside its fruit, juice running down my lip

as I sample her ripeness giving birth to her flower deep inside

tenderly you lick the sweet juice from my chin

glazing over is my eyes as the wind blows sand in them

blinding me momentarily as Jesus did to Paul

merging with these lands, I lay upon her warm bosom, and I grasp why the fig is strong

back to the noise, and sin of the city, he went, but I will not, for it is here that I belong

    1. Thank you David. I really appreciate it. You know it is funny when I was young we had a fig tree in the back yard. I don’t have a lot of good family memories but I loved eating those figs. I remember waiting for them to get ripe and getting a bowl of sugar and dipping them in every time before a bite. It also has to do with imagery and a story from the Bible.
I hope all is well with your sweet family my friend. Please take the best of care. Love and blessings to you and all those you love David. Love Joni

    1. Thank you for those very gracious words Francisco. I am so glad you enjoyed it. Love to you both. I hope you are able to go to the sun for a vacation this summer. It is going to be really hot here. My husband finally got his last shot two days ago. We will see if places start to open up more. Love ❤️ Joni

      1. You are very welcome Joni. Yes, I sure do hope we can travel south to the Aegean this summer again and enjoy the beach, although our beaches here are wonderful as well. I get my second shot on Tuesday (Pfizer) and here things are beginning to get back to normal pretty steadily and there are less and less cases as more and more of the population has been vaccinated. Take good care and our love to you both.

      2. Oh thank you for that great news. I think vaccinating everyone possible is the best way to go. We might wipe this thing out with the Grace of God. I sent my daughter your link and she loves your work. She was collecting pieces and commissioning art for very close friends as well. I don’t know how much she does that since she is adopting the three beautiful children from Haiti. They have been living with her for two years now. She loves Spain as well. I hope
down the road one of us will have one of your pieces in our home. I know your work will increase in value as the years go by. Blessings to you two. Love ❤️ J

      3. Thank you so much Joni. I am so glad your daughter liked my work and there’s more work to do. All good here and wishing you, your husband and your family all the best, with our love,
Stay well and enjoy a lovely weekend 🌺

What a beautiful piece that danced on the page of delicious nectar and stories of the bible woven in to lovely lines. It dripped with your sweetness and love. I have had a fig tree for 10 years and replanted after 7 because we would get 6 is all. This year I was so excited it had grown and the one fig looked delectable and so ripe. I picked it ready to sync my teeth into it and it was dry as a bone. boooo!!! When we bought our lake house 5 years ago I was so happy because we have a fig tree ont the property but the birds usually get them before I do.
I just loved your poem.. A + my friend closer than far💖❤️🥰
here’s to more sweetness and always love❣️

    1. Oh thank you Cindy. You always say the sweetest things regarding my work. I am so grateful you enjoyed it. I am sorry about your fig tree. What do you think is going on with it. I bet you were disappointed. I love a fig right off the tree. They are so wonderful. Don’t give up on your tree. I bet it is gorgeous. By the way I loved your description of my poem.

      1. Oh you’re soooo welcome. I wasn’t sure how I missed that one. Meeee too.. couldn’t believe it. I think i need to give it some more water and fertilizer.. We have lots of clay soil.

  5. The fervor and then the thought is blinded by the wind welcoming back to the present. Loved the crafting of the poetry.
