Atacama Blooms

Poem by Joni – Photo by David Vives, San Pedro de Atacama, Chile (Unsplash) – 24 second read

looks that peel my painful, prickled skin slowly off my body
stepping on me as if I were a small stone beneath the dirt
barely enough of a bother to remove this insignificant grit
lost in the Atacama desert riding a llama who talks of my fate
there is a storm of grave proportion in Chile’s parched desert
within a purple cloth, I plant my crusted heart like a flower seed
someone deserving may pick me from this blanket of blooms
springing from the impossible, may love pluck my stem tonight
resting, spun in silk, changing as flowers bloom awaiting the light

    1. Thank you Francisco. I would love to see the desert bloom what an amazing thing. Chile, the City, I spent ten days there and I loved the kind people, food and history. You two have a wonderful weekend. Love ❤️ and blessings to you both. 🥰

      1. I feel strongly one day your work will be in great museums like the Musee du Louvre, Vatican Museum, Metropolitan, J. Paul Getty Center and the Museo del Prado in Madrid, on loan from the collectors that buy your work knowing its beauty and its incredible worth as an investment. Especially that last piece on Instagram. Blessings to you and your wife which I feel is certainly yoked to you in the most beautiful and supportive way. Not to mention all her savvy marketing and business skills. Have an amazing weekend I will start mine today. Love you both, Joni

      2. Thank you 😊 very much Joni. I just do my work and bless God and try to communicate good and positive things always and if it’s His will my work be recognised then I praise Him. Your friendship here is a ray of sunshine ☀️ and I truly appreciate it. Love to you and your husband and my wishes for a happy and warm weekend! All the best,
        FBC

      3. You are so welcome my friend. Sounds like an amazing way to live. I do my best to do the same. Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate our friendship too. Love to
        you two my friends. 🤗❤️

    1. Thank you sweetie. Wouldn’t it be something to see it? It only happens every few years. Just amazing I think. Hope you have something fun but careful to do this weekend. Sending you great big hugs, much love
      And always blessings. ❤️🤗🥰😘😘

    1. Thank you Tim I really appreciate your reading and comment. I loved that photograph and there are many more on line that are so stunning. I wish I had money to spend on art work and photographs for my site. Some photographs took my breath away. It would be so wonderful to see the desert bloom. What a gift. Your photographs of the Rio Grande are unbelievable. When I saw your camera with lenses around your neck I was in awe. Sending you two hugs and love. ❤️🤗🥰 Joni

    1. Thank you Brenda I appreciate it. The desert is a dry spell with being treated badly in my first marriage. The Atacama desert in Chili doesn’t get rain for years and then it will storm and the whole desert blooms into this incredibly beautiful picture of colors. Then there is a storm and I plant my heart hoping someone will come along and choose me among the beautiful flowers. I think you got most of it my friend. Love you Brenda. ❤️🤗🥰

  1. “Someone deserving” caught me and keeps taking me back to that line. Makes me think of the value we should have (of ourselves? others? both?). Beautiful Joni. ❤️

    1. You certainly did get it hands down. First husband and rebirth in the desert was finding my current husband of 25 years, also best friend. I told you that you were wise my friend. Love you and please stay safe. Love you Joni

  2. What a wonderful poem honeybun. Atmospheric. Heartfelt.

I saw the interview on Susi’s site. Bravo.
    xoxo

    1. Dear Button this is nine days old also in my spam, for the life of me I don’t understand how this happens. Thank you for all your very kind words about this poem. Also for the Happy Mother’s day! Also thank you so much for watching the interview on Susi’s Site and for the kind Bravo. I play with my hair too much, I am going to have it cut to my shoulders on this Thursday, I think. It reminded me of a nervous child. Thank you Button for all these sweet gifts. Love you honeybun xoxoxo

  3. This is truly lovely! With its mustered feelings of what it is to be crushed and leave your essence on someone who will never smell it, to replanting oneself and waiting for the light, this is a beautiful story of growth and strength.

    1. Oh thank you so very much for your words. This is indeed exactly what feelings and thoughts I put to paper. I am grateful that you read and understood my feeling so precisely. Thank you so much for reading and leaving your lovely comment. Sending love to you and your loved ones. ❤️🤗❤️🤗Joni

    2. I just read your three pieces in “The Sound of Brilliance,” and they are lovely. All great qualities of strong women, the ability to accept and successfully survive “Change, Strength and Benevolence.” Each beautiful for different reasons and yet the same. My favorite, “Benevolence,” what a lovely piece. A glowing place where dreams are made with a substance that lets them forget their pain. Beautiful writing my friend! I bet it is beautiful where you live. Sending you love and hugs from North Carolina. xoxoxo

      1. North Carolina is a lovely state quite near to me, Joni, as I have friends there, though have never visited.
I cannot tell you how much I love that you read my poems and came here to share your thoughts with me! Thank you for sharing your reading experience. 🙂

  4. Yes, love transforms us, if we are fortunate enough to find it. I am so happy you have found it now, dear friend. May you have a wonderful Mother’s Day! May God continue to bless you and yours abundantly. I am so grateful for your friendship and your kindness. Love, A. <3 <3 <3

    1. Oh thank you dear Anna. You are a blessing in my life Anna and Happy Mothers Day to you too. Praying for Your daughter and the whole family. So grateful to know God and find comfort in his love ❤️. Love you J

  5. You are expressing so much pain and yet so much hope too, accompanied by a such an appropriate and stunning image. Beautiful, I love it <3

    1. Thank you so much my friend. If you have an extra minute some time look up the desert bloom. This desert only blooms 1 out of every 3 to 5 years. It seldom Rams in the desert but when it does the colors are amazing. The picture the photographer took that I used was so beautiful. If you look it up there are some pictures that don’t look real. Every color you can imagine covers the dry sand of the Chilean desert. So beautiful. Thank you for your kind words. Hope you and your family is safe and filled with blessings. Hugs and love ❤️ Joni

      1. I had a look, thank for the direction and for sharing so generously 💕🌸 This world is so amazing. In my search I came across another climatic phenomenon, in my part of the world, the desert bloom in Namaqualand in South Africa, hopefully I’ll be able to see this if I eventually get to do the trip to Namaqualand. Thank you, me and my family is safe, hope the same on your side? Blessings, hugs and love coming back your way, Henrietta

      2. Dearest Henrietta I did not know you lived in South Africa. How interesting my friend. That would be wonderful to visit such an amazing event. When I did my research I saw that there were other deserts in this world where this did occur. Thank you for all your kind well wishes. We are safe and healthy as well. Take care of yourself Henrietta. Love, hugs and blessings always for you and your family. 🤗❤️💝🥰🥰🤗

  6. I love how you blend something so personal with something so worldly, and so beautifully! You have an amazing gift, Joni, I am so glad that our paths have crossed, you are a blessing, my friend! 🥰

    1. How kind your words are Tiffany as I am a lover of your work as well. Thank you so much for all you beautiful compliments. You touch my heart. Love you ❤️🤗😘Joni

  7. The very first line just grabbed me and reeled me in. Your work does that, makes the reader want to take in more from the very first line. What an amazing work about love lost and found. ❤️
