Fledgling

Poem by Joni Caggiano – Photograph by brabus biturbo – Unsplash

in the waking hours, I hear your breath
crusted sands of the past are in your eyes
reminders of pain
lies that lick the dust
sheets that once knew luster
stolen from an innocent
devouring me like a vulture
lost, I linger like the fledgling
afraid to leave
afraid to stay
living in the in-between
dying in the shadows

      1. My apologies, I didn’t see this comment until just now. I chatted with an accommodating person on WordPress for about an hour to understand how I could be missing comments.

I found out today that WordPress limits the number of notifications you can have (a relatively small amount that’s not configurable). If I don’t respond to comments quickly (which includes new posts on every site I follow), it is likely to drop off. This means I won’t see a comment at all, as I have reached my limit, and the comment drops off.

I should be able to bypass this limitation by checking the comment section of my WordPress account on the computer many times a day. Please accept my apology, and I sincerely hope you have a blessed and fantastic day!

    1. I am so glad you liked it Rhen. Thank you so much for your always kind words. They mean a lot. Have a fabulous week. Love 💕 Joni 😘🙏🌸

  2. A beautiful poem, I very much admire your tenderness and how you are able to mix this softness with tremendous power…your words are so precise and they create a most beautiful image, images that transform your words into something that inside one can grasp and assimilate. Lovely, lovely work Joni…all the best and wishing you a great Wednesday.

    1. Francisco your praise and kind words leave me speechless. “I very much admire your tenderness and how you are able to mix this softness with tremendous power…”. I am so happy that it touched you. I love trees and the ocean so much that when I saw my friends photograph it was as “if the tree was trying to make it to the water.” Also her words. I am so grateful for your reading and commenting, it means so much Francisco. Thank you truly. I hope it is alright to ask if your studio is open yet? I hope that things are much better now. I am so grateful you are safe and still working. With much love from NC wishing you all the best in life my friend. Love Joni 🌸🌺😘❤️

      1. Thank you so much Joni. I admire your talent and your self as a friend, and I appreciate your support and words of kindness. My studio is always open but we are not yet in phase 1 so no one can come in yet…wishing for the best and knowing God is in control. With love from Spain,
        Francisco

      2. I like that your studio is always open. Thank you for your kind words Francisco. Try to imagine I am giving you a big heartfelt hug right now because if I were there I would. With love 💕 Joni

    1. Yes you are right my friend. I guess we all have our darkness to deal with during some period of our lives but we don’t have to live their as adults we have a better chance – children are the most vulnerable ones. Thank you Cassa for reading. I hope you have a week filled with love. Xoxoxo Joni

    1. Oh thank you Tim. Glad you liked the poem. I am curious if your owls have hatched. We have our annual when’s and I watch everything they do from the porch. So beautiful day we do have an owl that my husband can make their sound and it calls back. It is a bard owl. Hugs and love to you and all those you surround yourself down by the Rio Grande. ❤️🤗💕🥰

      1. At least on owlet has hatched up north. I posted photos of it on April 4th. It will be a few more weeks before the owlet’s nextdoor hatch..

    1. Yes there are the screamers but my experience was that only mean even worse things ahead. Thank you so much for reading my work. Love ❤️ Joni

      1. Yes, things are not good when there are screamers, never a good thing my friend. It is my pleasure to read your work. Sending wishes for an amazing weekend. We just had a bad hail storm here, so strange to look outside and see ice cubes everywhere. Crazy weather in North Carolina. Take good care my friend. Hugs Joni

      1. You are very kind to me. Thank you. Sending you a bag of coffee the fairies make from tree bark but don’t let that discourage you as they sprinkle angel dust on it and it is wonderful. Also you can eat your favorite sweets all you have to do is think of them. They will appear but hold no calories. Sending love ❤️ and blessings. 🤗❤️🧚‍♀️🧚‍♀️☕️☕️

  3. Yes, even when we manage to find love, the past lingers, casting its shadow over our hearts. Only God can dispel our demons. Thankfully, He stands ready to do that…however often it may be necessary. I hope you are well, dear friend. Your prayers for my family are deeply appreciated. Their impact is palpable. May God keep you in His care. Love, A. <3 <3 <3

    1. Thank you David. I appreciate that as you also write some chilling work. I can put myself in that dark place where I grew up pretty easily and that is ok because I pull myself right back out.

I am glad you are showing up on my notifications again. That is where I do all my responding from.
You have an amazing week too and keep that recording coming. ❤️Joni

      1. We are and we are so grateful to God we try and remember to be grateful for every blessing he bestows upon us. There are so many.
