The Poet’s Tender Heart

Poem by Joni Caggiano 3/15/21 – Clark Young – photographer from Unsplash – 40 second read

love, a raindrop, a snowflake, or the uniqueness of the flight of the leaf
moon shades of green bringing forth a canvas within the ocean’s kelp
songbirds sing for both you and me underneath the power of the same blue sky
black keys suit the music of your mystifying and powerfully winged words
white keys that are jealous are also poreless in the face of misery’s tapping
hindering happiness with scarlet seepings that birth thieves in the dark
like denying rest to a stigmata whose hands weep from her wounds
thin the skin that covers the allotment of the tender heart of a beloved poet
better to pierce one’s own heart than to cause pain, even unknowingly, to a bard
for our spirits question everything and feel all, bleeding white like the shielding cactus
when to another we somehow bring harm, our minds bear twisting torment over why
we are birds that know no marginal season; we shed our rare feathers and no longer fly

    1. Thank you dear Francisco. I am very much like this poem. My mom used to tell me all the time “Josie Karen you wear your heart on you sleeve.”

I am so glad you loved it my friend. Sending you all the best and your lovely lady as well from North Carolina. Have a wonderful and blessed rest of the week. Thanks and always sending love. ❤️💕💕🌹. Joni

  1. Oh my dear Joni, this is absolutely gorgeous. This poem really touched my heart.

“black keys suit the music of your mystifying and powerfully winged words
white keys that are jealous are also poreless in the face of misery’s tapping
hindering happiness with scarlet seepings that birth thieves in the dark”
The metaphors are magical. So so beautiful.

“we are birds that know no marginal season; we shed our rare feathers and no longer fly”
Such a marvellous ending! The entire poem is magical❤

Sending lots of love and hugs dear friend🤗🤗💕♥️

    1. Dearest Ishita I am thrilled by all your very gracious and complementary words. It means a lot to me to have not only your support but to hear that you enjoy reading my work. I too, enjoy reading your beautiful work as well. Have an amazing week my dear friend, sending you bundles of flowers and the fairies are bringing honey from last year‘s store they are wrapped in our own silk worm packages made by the silk worms.

Love and hugs to your family as well Ishita. 🎵🦋🤗💕🌹😘😘🦋🦋

Wow! Thank you so much for the flowers. They are so pretty. The honey smells amazing and is so sweet.
Sending you some freshly made sweets. (Let me know if you would like with sugar or not 😉)
        Love❤ Ishita

  2. ‘better to pierce one’s own heart than to cause pain’ had me totally, totally floored. You again opened your inner eye, dear Joni to see what we may see but don’t notice!
    Love from India
    N.B Howz your health?

    1. Thank you so much for your many kind words, they are greatly appreciated. Also thank you for being kind enough to ask about my health I am doing fine and feeling very blessed. I hope you and your family are all blessed and well. Sending love and hugs to your entire family. Love Joni

      1. I am really delighted to hear good news about your health. It’s our biggest asset. I missed your presence but it seems nobody missed me! I have been very irregular in writing my blog because i keep trying to engage with other blog writers ( dropping comments in appreciation or liking their writing) but they either press like without reading or don’t comment. It’s disheartening because it smacks of insensitivity. They are not giving.
Anyways, i guess the world is too engrossed in itself to care.
Love and good wishes to you, dear Joni.

      2. Well that is disheartening and I am saddened to hear that my friend. Have you done a search to target other educators? Your work is so creative and I know if I had a child I would be using your wonderful work. It is such a kind thing that you are doing, helping others during this difficult time. Please don’t give up my friend. Your work is well done and has a place. Love ❤️ Joni. 😘thanks again for your kindness my kind friend.

      1. That is so sad. I went to the Dr. two days ago
and he basically talked about the same thing. What a sad thing that our world has become like this. God knows what a good and kind man you are. I know and many other writers know that you have introduced us too. May God bless you my kind and gracious friend. Love you Joni 💕🤗❤️

  3. Oh, Joni, I love this one, too. It is a musical fantasy, but also some sadness was hidden beneath. I can’t imagine anyone not loving you and your words. You are a wonderful talent and a wonderful person. Sending Love, hugs! Thanks again.

    1. You are such a sweetie thank you for your kind words my friend. I appreciate our friendship. Thank you for your very gracious words. So glad you enjoyed this piece. Sending you lots of love ❤️ and wishing you joy and love that overflows your heart. 🤗❤️💕🦋😘 Joni

      1. I am doing really well Joni.. coming to know real moments of feeling so alive and happy.. there are still family things going on but I seem to have more distance now… thanks so much for asking.. are you feeling the coming of spring approaching there? We are heading into autumn but the tree leaves have not turned yet. xoxo

      2. We are seeing all kind of spring signs. I am so glad you are doing well. So truly thankful. Glad you finally feel it is ok to
Distance yourself. I am sending you lots of love and many blessings from God. 💕🤗❤️🙏🙏

  4. If this doesn’t ‘scream’ at me….I don’t know what would…. “thin the skin that covers the allotment of the tender heart of a beloved poet”.

    Beautifully expressed Joni ❤️

    1. Thank you sweet friend. I imagine most artists have tender hearts and mine is particularly tender. Thank you for your lovely comment. I think most of us feel things very deeply. I really appreciate your sweet support. Love ❤️ you Joni

    1. Oh thank you Stuart. I do believe us to be a tender hearted lot. Thank you for your gracious words my friend. It means so much.
You two have an amazing weekend. ❤️🤗🦋

  5. Wow, Joni, this is so beautiful, you are so gifted with words, an amazing talent! I really like the style of the poem too, intriguing and different, is there a name for it? I hope you are doing well, wishing you a beautiful weekend! 🥰💖😊🤗

    1. Tiffany you always say things that touch my heart so deeply. Thank you for your gracious words sweet friend. I don’t know the style if it is a particular style. I put on music and often pray before I write and I write what is in my heart. Thank you sweetie, sending you lots of love and warm hugs. Love you Joni 🤗❤️

  6. Very beautiful ❤️ Being a closet poet myself (not really now but in my youth) I think it’s such a way to express so many things we are feeling. You perfectly describe the inner spirit of someone who expresses so much through written words. I love this!

    1. Oh thank you Jill that is exactly what I was trying for as well as what a tender hearted bunch we can be. I certainly am but then you know me very well. I am blessed to have you near and call you friend. Love ❤️ you. PS you will have to share one of your pieces with me some time.
