River’s Song

I hide within her rolling peaks and float with ferns that line the river
Playing the snapping turtle’s shell pulsating sounds echo in rhythm
Scarlet Tanagers singing along with warblers from their thin branches
Water moccasins slither like ribbons in the wind close to her long lip
Young Blue-fronted Dancers perform a colorful salsa within her mist
Fearlessly I swim naked in her cool but thickly sheltered mossy bottom
Schools of minnows tickle my back as I float, eyes closed and listen
Tales of crickets and wise archaic catfish seep through the dark water
Sharing yarns with the oaks and sugar maples thick on limestone slopes
Melting with the color of the sunset my body turns into her extended arms
Rolling with her cadence millions of cicadas begin their striking chorus
Lightning bugs come out to dance with fairies that fill the trees at dusk
Climbing under a large oak, I lay on a stone that is still warm from the sun
God surrounds me, and my heart flies overhead as I soar with the river’s song

  1. This is so beautiful, so divine, my dearest Joni. It’s heaven and earth coming together in a single bliss. I am in love with this poem.
May you have a beautiful day, hon. Just stay away of the water moccasins.
Your talent shines and shines and shines..
    much love to you.
    xoxo

    1. Thank you so much Gabriela you have really humbled me with these words. I appreciate your kindness so much. Your sweet I use to swim where there were water moccasins all the time. God kept me safe. Water was an escape in a fantasy world for me. Thanks again for you kind words. Hope your weekend is blessed with lots of light and love. 😘😘 Much love to you Button.

      1. My pleasure sweetheart. Really a beautiful poem. Swim where there were water moccasins? Ouch… I had a big one on my back terrace last summer. I went on the terrace and first thing I noticed there were two elongated and magnificent green eyes. After a second or so I realized it was a humongous water moccasin and I ran in the house. Those eyes … I am telling you. He was just basking in the sun.

“God kept me safe.” May God keep you safe always Joni.
        Love and hugs to you
        G.

      2. That must have been scary, they are very poisonous. I watched one chase my cousin in a pond once they are very aggressive. I would never do that now but we do crazy things as children and teenagers. May God keep you safe too beautiful Button. Love ya 😘😘

    1. Thank you sweet Bulbul. I appreciate your kind words so much. I am well and so pray you are well or quickly getting better. With love and prayers. Love you Joni

      1. Dearest Bulbul, I want you to know I would never ignore any comment on purpose. I found out today that I had 37 messages that were no longer in my notification folder because I have reached my limit of comments 2.8K and they can just drop off if I don’t watch my comments from my computer. I did not know this until today. So love to you my friend, I am also so grateful that TheFinestExample is doing so well, the magazine looks amazing. Great job my friend. Take care and again so sorry about this, I have tried to explain as best I can what happened. Love Joni

My apologies, I didn’t see this comment until just now. I chatted with an accommodating person on WordPress for about an hour to understand how I could be missing comments.

I found out today that WordPress limits the number of notifications you can have (a relatively small amount that’s not configurable). If I don’t respond to comments quickly (which includes new posts on every site I follow), it is likely to drop off. This means I won’t see a comment at all, as I have reached my limit, and the comment drops off.

I should be able to bypass this limitation by checking the comment section of my WordPress account on the computer many times a day. Please accept my apology, and I sincerely hope you have a blessed and fantastic day!

      2. Oh my God, Joni! Don’t worry at all, dear. Being a user of wordpress, I too very well understand the technical glitches that arise out of various situations as a result of which things get missed sometimes.
I never thought anything out of it. You are too sweet to worry about this.
There is seriously no need for any apology whatsoever, I am sure we are much better friends than that.
I hope you are able to rectify any technical problem that you are facing very soon.
        Love and hugs always!! πŸ€—πŸ’•β€πŸ™
(PS; never ever worry about these trivial things, at least with me πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰)

      3. Oh sweet Bulbul, how kind and generous you always are. I am so glad you understand. I do love your sweet heart and am so glad you are so understanding. I hope it is fixed. I have to be very diligent in checking sever times a day for comments as I was told I had reach my limit 2.8 comments and they start to drop off after that. Hopefully that won’t happen again. Have a wonderful day my friend. Love and hugs to you and your loved ones. Joni. πŸ’•β€οΈπŸŒΊπŸ’–

    1. Yes it is really. A safe place I had to go when I was little. It was wonderful. A lot of good memories spent there for a few years. One of my mothers siblings that didn’t drink and loved the Lord. She was good to me. She talked about God a lot and I got to stay with her occasionally. Thank you Anna. Love ❀️ Joni

  5. Beautifully written, Jonikins! It reminds me of Tennyson or Whitman where the imagery is so vibrant and contextual. You fill the senses with your lovely words and create an entire world to become lost in. Well done!
