My New Poem

Revisiting a Sanctuary for a Child Who Found her Freedom

thin and wrinkled, like stiff branches, I see my arms
shaking now as does the fledging before its first flight
carefully sitting down under the same old favorite oak
my heart like a beacon holding on forever to this moment
looking out on brownish waters that still sing my song of freedom
from all that is daunting in my life as I run flying into this picture
with melodic cricket sounds merging with bullfrogs
leaves rustling to their own tempo as soft green moss kiss my palms
turtle heads darting up catching dragonflies for snacks
a blue butterfly lands upon my shoulder, kissing the trenches on my cheek
love of the dance of the sun’s light leaves an atlas of brown spots
looking like a constellation along the surface of the night’s moon on an aged face

I close my eyes and remember

    1. Thank you so much Amit for you kind words. I appreciate it very much.
I too, hope that you and all your loved ones have a wonderful new year with brighter days and lots of blessings my friend. Love ❤️ Joni

  1. It is good to see your artistry and work continue to be recognized and shared to a larger audience. The beauty you create can mean so much to others for whom articulating these feelings does not come naturally. You give words to their wishes and bouyancy to their hopes. Well written, Jonikins!

    1. Brad these are very kind words and they mean a lot to me. Your support always touches my heart. 1. Thank you Colleen that is a sweet and lovely comment. That tells me it was effective and I captured what I was hoping too my friend. I hope you and your loved ones have a wonderful New Years. May it be full of love, blessings, happiness and better health for our world. Love to you Colleen and to your loved ones. 🤗💕❤️🙏🦋🎊

  3. Oh, Joni. You take us w/ you as you dive into memories of childhood and the release from pain and sorrow that nature provided you. At some level, we remain children, even as age claims us. Depending on the experiences we had as children, that fact is both positive and negative.

I love the comparison you make between the thin and wrinkled arms of age and the wings of fledglings. As older adults we again become fledglings, poised on the edge of eternity.

May this New Year hold health, happiness, and success for you and yours, dear friend.

    Blessings,

    A. <3

    1. Oh Anna you read and understand my words so well. I am always touched that you read my work and even more to know how much you understand. We never completely get away from that child that needed and wish to have a life. Nor should we, most likely, as acknowledging our inner child is to comfort ourselves, and not to deny the existence of her.

Thank you for understanding and getting the comparison it means so much. I love you dear Anna. I too wish you a New Year full of blessings and thank you for yours.
      Will be checking in soon.
      ❤️💕Joni

  4. This is an absolute masterpiece….”thin and wrinkled, like stiff branches, I see my arms shaking now as does the fledging before its first flight”…..right from the very begining, this poem is quite intense with quite a deep imagery….congratulations on your new publication, dear Joni ✨

    1. Oh Navin thank you so much. You certainly picked up on the intensity of those lines. Revisiting a place where I found amazing peace and the memories of having to leave a safe place to go back to another place that was not safe, as a child.
Thank you for such a kind comment my friend. Sending from my heart, love which flows so freely and joyfully to yours. Have an amazing day and thank you for reading. 🤗💕❤️Joni

      1. You’re welcome Joni….you’re a strong woman…shining bright despite of the abuses & traumas you experienced during your childhood….you’re still evolving, my dear friend….sending you the pure light ✨

      2. Thank you my friend and yes I am still evolving. Thank you Navin for all your kindness and thanks. Be safe and blessed. Sending love. 🤗💕❤️

      1. You are so welcome Joni. It is always my treat to visit you. I am and i hope you are as well! I truly appreciate your support as well and the connection we have established through the year. 1. This is twelve days old, so once again my friend, I must apologize to you. I do so appreciate this kind comment and once again it ended up in my pending file in the computer. I have had a big lesson today on how not to miss comments given to me by my husband. He was a computer science major and if it were not for his kind help I would be in serious trouble with WordPress. I have been using computers a very long time. I am guessing at least six years longer than you as I am likely that much older than you. My sweetie is more than a decade younger and keeps me on my toes. If I ever neglect a comment I hope you will know that I did not see it. There were a bunch this morning (15), that were in the pending folder that were not in my notifications on my phone. You and your wife are quite the team, my friend, as your work is not only incredibly organized, beautifully presented but also done so professionally. Not to mention the amazing talent that you bring with your poetry, which is so lovely, photography and artwork which is beyond incredibly interesting and your music which accompanies your articles on artist. You are truly blessed and I know that you are aware and appreciate what you have which makes you even more special. You and your wife (please send her love from me) have an amazing weekend. Thank you for your friendship Francisco. J

      1. Thank you Joni, it is a blessing just to read your words, you are truly a wonderful person and I appreciate you very much. My wife and I wish you both all the best and she too thanks you. Our love from Spain,
        F

      2. Oh thank you both so much. I talk to
Our neighbors about our friends from Spain as I truly feel that way. So
thanks and our love right back. 🌸💕❤️🧚‍♀️🌸🌺🌷🌼🌹Joni

    1. Thank you so much Katy. The only thing that pond was missing was a tire swing on a big oak. When I was older we had one of those on the KY River. Talk about crazy times. Love ya Kind Katy. 🤗💕❤️

      2. 🤗💕❤️🦋 You and your man must play in water on a tire swing. You are not completely southern till you swing from an oak tree in a tire swing and jump off in the middle of the river or pond. 🤗💕❤️🦋🐉🐉🧚‍♀️🧚‍♀️love y’all

    1. Oh thank you dear John. Hope you are having a blessed week. Are your grandchildren close enough where you get to see them often? Sending hugs and love to you and your family. 🤗💕❤️🦋Joni
