In Love With My Spanish Breakfast

Poem by Joni Caggiano – Photograph by Pexels – 58 seconds reading time

when the sun put on her yellow robe, she was shining
sitting in the humming café in Sevilla which graced her street’s corner like a jewel
while my love was sipping his café solo, the lip of his cup smiles at me
our young waiter cuts slices for my bocadillo con jamón
as he greets me yet again, I notice how beautiful he is with his curly dark hair
feeling guilty as my husband slips his warm hand gently between my legs
suddenly the aching in me is a yearning that physically hurts
biting into my croissant de chocolate, I feel the heat traveling like a stranger
starting where my husband’s hand remains and rising to my cheeks
I hear the voice of my husband, whose every inflection I know intimately
as he touches my fiery face with his loving lips, he whispers – are you ok
I am a foreigner, yet I have never felt so welcomed; the guilt fades
along with the crimson color of my cheeks, and I want my husband so feverishly
kissing him passionately, I am a petal in his hands, clay that he can mold
grasping what I desire, he leaves a twenty-dollar bill on the table
briskly we walk to the hostel to our tiny room where we draw the thick curtains
shredding our clothes like candy wrappers a blue butterfly
sings an opera in Spanish, my husband translates with his fingers
my body melts with the human blanket that enfolds me
this beautiful country without the love of my life
would be a lonely tear stuck on a stranger’s face

Wow… is it hot in here, or is it just me?

This is so powerfully real, Joni!

    1. Thank you David you are very kind. This one is real. The only time I have been to Europe was when we traveled all over Spain. We went to that little cafe several days in a row. Sending you love, hugs and flowers this morning Ben. שיהיה לך יום מבורך באמת ידידי האדיב

    1. Thank you John you are indeed a sweetheart. I appreciate your kind reblog as I have found some very good poets on your site I follow and enjoy. Did you ever spend time in Spain? Sending you love and hugs this morning my friend. 🤗💕❤️Joni

      1. Well I hope it was beautiful. My daughter has been there a few times but I never have. I would love to go. Perhaps we will both be blessed with travel again. Sending you love, hugs and prayers for safety. 🙏🤗💕❤️Joni

    1. Thank you my friend. I am so glad you liked this. Yes, easy to find the words when describing an actual experience with my husband. Spain is the only country of love I have visited. Although I have been to Mexico with my husband and British Columbia which were also wonderful trips. Haiti we visited on mission trips. I want to go to Greece, I hope I get to go someday. Right now I just want our world to be healthy and a kinder place.
I really love your blog. Smiling and feeling good is such a blessing which you give when you post. Thank you again for that.
Hugs and love to you and all those you love. 🤗💕❤️Joni

      1. Awww Joni, you are so good for my soul. Your travels and missions sound wonderful. I love the look and history of Greece and would love to visit if for no other reason (though I know there are MANY!) would be to stand under that blue sky, by the white houses and verandas, next to that stunning blue water.

      2. That is exactly what I see when I look at all the pictures that is exactly what I want to do too. Hopefully we will both get our dreams. Love, hugs and blessings. Joni

  2. Beautiful photo to go with your very passionate & sexy poem! You have such a way with words, it’s a blessing to read & fun too! xoxo

    1. Oh thank you my dear friend. You are so good to me. We did have fun in that cafe and even though I had pastries every morning with my sandwich I lost weight as you walk everywhere in Spain. You would love it there dearest Janette. By the way I hope the fairies are helping out. I realized that both you and Gabriela have the same injury right now. Please take care my dearest friend and rest. If you need more help let me know and I will ask my friend Katy if we can borrow her dragons 🐉 only Zeke probably would bark at them. Love you bunches Janette ❤️💕🤗😘🧚🏻🧚🏻🦋

    1. Thank you so much. I appreciate your very kind words. I am glad you liked it. My husband and I were in Spain and had a wonderful time together. The people were so nice and I feel in love with the country.

    1. Thank you my friend. You are so sweet to me. Are you finding that your likes are down? I just found out after chatting with wordpress that they are having this problem with Safari. I decided to check after my editor said when she hits the like button it doesn’t stay liked and that has been happening with me constantly on other people’s site. I write a comment and the like button is no longer on. I was also a little suspicious of this when I had 172 views of my last SpillWords post and only 72 likes, that seemed odd. So I am going to do the things suggested and see if that makes a difference. It is frustrating as I have to make sure when I like someone’s work that after my comment to hit the like button a second time. Just saying . . . . They are always nice to me when I chat with them but I know you do a ton of posting so I thought I would ask you. Hope you are having an amazing day my friend. Sending you love, hugs and triple shots with a heart in cream on top. love Joni

    1. Thank you Tiffany I really appreciate it. Your words are very kind and I needed that this morning. Having problems with WordPress due to issues with Safari, which isn’t their fault. I am so impatient with technical stuff. I pray for patience all the time and I need to keep it up because I am not. Hope you have something nice planned for the holiday with your honey that is safe. We are just going to be safe and stay home. Praying that things will get more “normal” for everyone especially those that are not blessed like we are. We are so fortunate to love our husbands and have someone as many people are alone, so I don’t take that for granted. I am sure you don’t either. Love you Tiffany. xoxoxo Joni

    1. Thank you Francisco. You are very kind indeed. We went to that same cafe for breakfast for several days in a row. I am glad you think I captured Spain. Her people were so kind to us. We enjoyed our time there so much. Sending love to you both. 🤗💕❤️ J

      1. Yea!! We fell in love with Sevilla. Sounds like it is well loved if a native of Spain feels the same. Hugs to you both. Love from NC. 🤗💕❤️🦋

      2. We were on the costa del sol, and in Granada too. So beautiful. We stayed in a little coastal town in Andalusia which was so gorgeous. It was like part of the city of white was built right into the hills themselves, merging people with nature. I wanted to get lost there. Thank you Francisco. Love coming back to Valencia. 🤗💕❤️

      3. Thank you my friend, I totally agree. You two are blessed living in such a beautiful place. I too, am grateful for the beauty in the south. We all have an appreciation for the beauty in our world. You two have a blessed New Year and let us pray for a better world next year. Hugs and love ❤️🤗 Joni
