Bitter Still

Poem by Joni Caggiano – Thanks to Chirag Saini from Unsplash – 26 second read

thorns took my youthful flesh like a fish will bite the bait
bitter your words, like a dull sword in battle, way too late

black roses are still black when the sun forgets to shine
youthful clock, tick-tock, tick-tock, no longer are you mine

blisters form on my thighs where your kisses once did lay
the sun lost its heat, and the cold stole this russet day

children do not climb a tree that has lost its stunning arms
your sinful ways are like a cordless puppet, without charms

blue butterfly was I, caught in your black and vicious trap
I left, and my wrinkles became a charred, and lonely map

    1. Thank you so much for that lovely comment. It lets me know I got my point across. Luckily that is fiction for me now but I pull from my young days. Dumped by my first love for a woman who had a great car, older and was willing to give what I was not ready for at the time. I was sixteen and thought I would surly die. Thank you for reading my friend. Love to you and yours. 🤗💕❤️

      1. You are very welcome! Sometimes it’s the painful parts of life’s journey that drip though the strongest and that we can all relate to. Stay Well 🙂

  1. Beautiful and so sad my dearest, honeybun. Yet, transformation sadness into beauty is one of the roles of the artist, isn’t it? You did it so well.
Have a blessed and restful day.

  2. In facing our pain we win mastery over it. It becomes a tool rather than a hinderance. It shows us where we must gain strength and reminds us that every path has some uphill sections on it. But pushing through it is what defines our character. And you are a person of great character. Well written, Jonikins!

    1. Oh Brad thank you so much. You are right about everything you said. I consider myself a warrior and I am strong but it took a while to get here. I am sure you understand to a certain degree from being in the military. You have blessed me this morning with your kind comment. I am honored that you are my friend. Love to you my friend. I am with my daughter from WA and we are having a wonderful time. So if I miss anything I will catch up. Take care love ❤️💕❤️Jonikins

    1. It is, you are so right about the bitter seed Anna, I learned about the bitter seed early
In life. Forgiveness is the only way to go, you are so right. The only way to go, as the bitterness only hurts the person who holds onto their bitterness.
