SUMMER LIE

laughter, like sand sticks to us
an opening in my white, silk dress by a timeworn nail
gusts cool my bronze skin, like the resonant fluttering of angel wings
reality plays hopscotch with memories
sunshine caresses the thick fibers of your gold-flecked curls
cheeks flushed, ornamental stones hang from my scarf
scarlet hair tied loosely back
calluses on bare feet, chiseled with the maps of my stories
smells of vanilla, sandalwood, and coconut
socializing with the salty air

    1. Oh thank you Francisco. I am so glad it gave you happy memories. It is always interesting just how incredibly intense every emotion is as a teenager or when one experiences what they think is love when young.

      Thank you for your continued support my friend and best wishes to you and your wife as well. The temperature is in the high 80’s and low 90’s here. We take walks but it is hot. Still it is nice to get out and talk to neighbors at a distance and make sure families are all ok. We feel very blessed as I feel sure you and your wife do too. ❤️Joni

  9. I love it when you say ‘ reality plays hopscotch with memories.’ There’s this wonderful summer in the background and just awestriking words on the front. You evoke so many feelings from those lines which don’t even have a name. There runs warmth, peace and literally an enchanting spell of magic in the words. I absolutely love how you paint your words with amazing sensory details without lathering them in heaps of adjectives. Such clever use of images to literally turn the poem.
    You have a very distinctive style, a beautiful choice of words, an emotion all throughout that is difficult to be given a name but wonderful to feel. You write so well .
    It was a delight to go through your flight in the various pieces and they left a soft and serene calmness in me. I can’t even fit in the praises of your works and am probably repeating everything that has been said, but know that as I read your works I truly see an enchanting poetess who deserves so so much more.
