Leaving Again

memories of White Lake, pour over me like a cloud shedding its fluid
the lake of glass, glistening in the sun, reflecting silent laughter
looking at your toes underneath this cooling mirror, I sigh
the rough wooden pier that stretches out, as a second summer day
calling my name, like a silk scarf longing to feel fingers touching
music lingers akin to a floating seagull in the cobalt blue skies
size fives are stirring to the notes, and the cadence drifting
smells of amber, tobacco, and patchouli mixing with the scent of heat
holding hands, my body remembers your touches and tender visits
sauntering toward the dance floor, I am floating, I hear your smile
holding me in your strong bronze arms, I know your leave is ending
oblivious to all but you, I study your breath, as again, I pray you will again return

Poem by Joni Caggiano on 6/2/20 – Photo is of a painting my daughter commissioned from an artist of White Lake as a precious gift for me – Artist name is Fran Holt please visit – you can see her work here

    1. It was such a wonderful and touching gift. Thank you so much for your kind words. They mean so much. The three children on the raft are me and two of my siblings. I told my daughter about how I had some wonderful memories there and have her the picture and it was a Christmas gift. Love to you Joni. 😘🌺🌸❤️

  2. It’s a lovely post, beginning to end. And the painting is reminiscent of one of the classic artists…though I can’t recall the name. Blessings to you <3

    1. Thank you sweet Rhen. I am glad you liked it. It was one of the few places my parents would take us when we were little and not drink to the point of being drunk. It would be full of other kids to play with and a place the military would frequent. The men were always very kind to us girls as we were often not watched. We would dance together at the jukebox but the poem is just fiction. Love you my sweet sister in Christ. Joni

    1. Oh thank you for your sweet words they mean a lot to me my friend. Thank you for visiting. Hope you have a blessed day and love 💕 and great health. Joni

  3. Joni, this is wondrous – words, painting and gesture. Your poetry is fragrant and immersive, you draw us into scenes and allow us to experience them in your beautiful words. Have a wonderful day my friend 💕❤️.

      1. That is sad really. They are like tiny people. We also have a type of bee that looks like a hummingbird and I am not kidding. This is sad. Well I guess you don’t know what you are missing. You simply must look them up though. Have hugs and fairies and rainbows. Love 💕 Joni

  4. Great, great writing Joni…I was truly captivated by this poem. Beautiful thoughts, words were perfect and the images wonderfully clear…so precious the scene you’ve captured. I truly admire your writing because I can see it comes from the heart. Take good care Joni and all the best to you,
    Francisco

    1. I hope you are having a marvelous day my dear friend. It is probably night there now. I looked at pictures of Valencia yesterday on line. There is so much to do there and it is a much bigger city than I thought it was too. Thank you for all your very kind words. I am so glad you enjoyed it Francisco. Have a truly blessed rest of your week. Sending you lots of hugs and well wishes my kind friend. Love 🌺🌸❤️💕 Joni

      1. Thank you so much Joni! No, it is not night here yet, it is still the afternoon…our night begins at around 10pm which is when the sun begins to go down at this time of the year. I wish you a lovely, lovely day too, a beautiful middle of the week day! And a lovely weekend ahead. Thank you so much!
Take good care, and all the best, with love and peace and happiness to you and your husband,
        Francisco

      2. Oh wow that is a lot of daylight to have fun in or work in. Sending back buckets of flowers and seed to feed the birds and squirrels. Bless you Francisco. Love Joni 🌺🌸❤️💕

      3. Oh yes please! Those are real beauties with their red, or bright purple flowers. I like the ones growing over a patio or even houses they completely cover everything in blooms. What a great choice. Of course I had to look it up but I am in love with them. You have great taste of course my dear friend. Love and many hugs to you my friend. PS In the kind feature of my work that Gabriela (button) did yesterday in my poem I mention the moonflowers whose blossoms only open at night. In the picture I have a flower in my hair but I couldn’t put a moonflower there as it was bright that day even though it doesn’t look that way in the photograph. Even the name of your flower is beautiful. Buckets and buckets of them hanging wherever you venture today. Thinking of you my friend. Love Joni

      4. The bougainvillea is very popular in southern Mediterranean climates and the beauty is that the flower is the smallest of flowers, tiny and white amidst the red or lilac leaves of the tree…thank you so much Joni. I am sure that is a lovely photograph of you, although I’ve not seen it…Love and peace sending you both from my Mediterranean Spain 🇪🇸

      5. Well now I have to look it up again as the variety of Flowers I saw were bright purple and pink. I will specifically look up the flower in your area and see if I can find what you are describing. It sounds so lovely. It may have lots of variations. Love to you my dear friend from NC.
        👍🌸❤️Joni

      6. Yes Joni, it’s beautiful, it loved the sun and it’s Mediterranean, like me, who also loves the sun…thank you my dear friend 💙🌷🌸😊🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

      7. I can understand that. The Mediterranean is so beautiful and the sun warms are skin and makes us feel so alive. There is such a uniqueness about the sea. You are welcome my kind friend. Sending tiny white flowers and a warm smile. Love 💕 Joni

  5. My Dearest Joni,
This is an outstanding write. It’s atmospheric and intricate. It’s divine.
    “I hear your smile
holding me in your strong bronze arms” I can listen to the music of this poem over and over again. I can loose myself in it. It’s delightful.
May your evening and night be as beautiful as your poem is.
    Hugs and love honeybun.
