The Ancients

Wounded heart dangling in a hundred pieces, from gifted ancient trees
Where others have ventured for centuries, to weep, over Egypt’s Red Seas
Her dying algae turning the blue-green waters to scarlet, the color of death
Hues of the sunset rise with my embers towards heaven’s vast floral breath
My lonely aching soul, did awake a heartless, hurt spirit, searching for love
Wasted lessons, my pores drip with blood while angels weep for us above
My trust lies in a hollow shell where mirth like English ivy used to spread
Now dancing and my treasure of fruits, went inside a blackened hole instead
Turning burnt bone to ash, for I gradually disappear with his suffocating lies
Demeaning my blossoms, my thought, and freedom of movement with ties
Slave to his bondage my heart forgot to beat, while a fire was raging inside
The ancients and animals did clap while my embers float, an intended bride
To God the Father, ever new my spirit, saw his dazzling light, I did so bow
Jesus was smiling, for my mother came, and lovingly embraced me now

    1. Thank you my dear friend Sidharth. I really do appreciate your very kind words. I am so glad you liked it, that means a lot. I hope you have been well and safe. We are going to be able to go a few places again but still pretty much on lock down for a couple of more weeks. Hope that things are better there. I truly hope that you are being careful my friend. Love and hugs to you Sidharth, Joni

  1. Joni, my dearest, this prose poem is superb. The flavor of the metaphors is fantastic. Oh, Egypt; its desert filled with tombs of prophets and of kings. You wrote such an unbelievable piece: atmospheric; speaking to God from the depth of the past.
    Your unbelievable talent shines.
    You made my evening.
May your rest of the weekend be blessed.
    Love you

      1. Good morning honeybun. I got the love and hugs. Sending you many more back and Happy Mother’s Day to you. Make your day shine 🌺🤗💕❤️🤗💝

    1. Thank you Rhen. I am so glad you like it. Lately it has been taking me longer to write. Also having a little trouble with creativity. It is strange how it comes. I pray about my writing. I want it to send a good message that touches others. I love your poetry Rhen. I don’t know why you don’t send your stuff in for publication. I love you. I hope you have a blessed Sabbath my sweet sister in Christ. Love and hugs Joni 🌸🌺❤️

      1. Maybe you’re too perfectionistic? I take a rather relaxed approached to writing…I trust the Spirit–as I’ve mentioned, God is my writing partner 🙂 I don’t really know how to submit for publication–I need a secretary/assistant type person 🙂 🙂 You are such a blessing to me, Joni-Sister–your words are like hugs!! Praying your week is blessed–and I meant to ask about your mother-in-law, and your daughter. How is everyone? 🌷🌷🌷

      2. What a kind soul you are. My mother in law is very slowly improving and my daughter is doing great. Thank you for asking. You are so thoughtful Rhen. Yes, you are right my friend I am very hard on myself. Still a bit of the old days working against me. I am so grateful for Everything I have. I bet you are enjoying the beautiful weather there. I love you Rhen. Thank you and I pray that you are happy and blessed this day. From me with lots of love and hugs coming to you. Joni 🌸🌺😘❤️💕

      3. Good to hear that Scott’s mom is improving, and that your daughter is fine! Faithful prayers are indeed effective <3 Some parts of the "old days" do linger–keeping us ever leaning into our Lord. As for the weather–we're having HOT temps for a few days…so that affects how I feel physically. No AC, so all the fans are roaring…blowing warm air–but it's supposed to cool down to normal temps at mid-week. I LOVE the blue-sky sunny days, just not too Hot 🙂 And I'm baking chicken–have to cook, didn't plan for hot weather meals 🙂 Much love always, Rhen

      4. Thank you Rhen you are a dear friend. God is faithful all the time. Thank you for your very sweet prayers. Love you 🌺🌸❤️
