Earthly Ornaments

Our Lord reaches down and kisses the earth softly.
Angels cry tears creating melodious mist on strings,
garden spiders create to entertain tourists for lunch.
Astounding smells of infused beauty melting before me.
Tuberose absolute mixing with gardenias and gliding,
stroking smooth skin uniting with sweat into glorious
aromas of coconut and sun caressed bodies – chatting.
Swaying in the wind are seeds that replant the lush soil.
Nature is telling stories of life to deer that tread wisely,
nibbling while watching squirrels take forage from birds.
Dangling cocoons move as caterpillars plan their escape.
Tearing at their hardy, cloud-white confinement – hungry,
Willow oak leaves will make the perfect meal for months.
Japanese magnolia and Pear trees bloom with fairy dust,
envious of each other’s hues feeling slighted by the pansies.
God has dressed these spring ornaments in glossy colors
from His heavenly palette of love, which makes creation weep.

    1. Thank you sweet Rhen I am glad you like the poem. Yes it is different in the south then in Seattle area in terms of land. You can’t find a house with land things are much more economically feasible here. We are so blessed to have deer, turkey, hawks large owls and we did have a brave fox for a while but I was glad when he left. Love you sweetie. Your sister Joni

      9. It all sounds so wonderful! Who knows, maybe the Lord will make it happen one day (before I’m completely decrepit, haha!). We will share Easter together from a distance <3 Good Friday is a hard day.

      11. Oh, Joni–I’d love to hear more about the 5 miracles…I wonder if it’s similar to Steven Furtick’s book and message series called The Seven-Mile Miracle. Is your message available via Calvary Chapel Cary? I can look later, no problem! I’ll be cooking today–do you have Easter dinner plans?

      12. I would love to send you the link about the five miracles. I actually think you would enjoy our Pastor’s preaching. It is line be line biblical teaching with the Greek meanings of all significant words and what is going on geographically as well. I will put it on this response for you. He will be preaching tomorrow and we are excited to hear. No, we don’t really have plans. I might make homemade pizzas for us and I am making a cake but that is a usual day. We will be giving thanks for Christ’s resurrection and will probably try and find a biblical movie. I hope you will not be alone tomorrow Rhen. I wonder if you and your good friend could wear mask and watch a service tomorrow or something. So go into YouTube and then type in Calvary chapel Cary and then look for Pastor Rodney Finch and underneath the name of our church you will see Five Miracles on the Cross. Matthew 27:45-54.       1. I, too, enjoy the feel and fit of a printed book. I am so looking forward to Gabriela’s next publication. She is someone we can all aspire to, though she would never admit it, as she is as humble as she is talented. I am glad you followed her encouragement and have submitted your work to Spillwords. The exposure of your work to a larger audience is a little scary at times, but the benefits are so valuable. I have been blessed to have some of my work published there and to read from so many other talented writers and poets on their site. It was no accident that she was chosen ‘Author of the Year’.
