Earthly Ornaments

Our Lord reaches down and kisses the earth softly.
Angels cry tears creating melodious mist on strings,
garden spiders create to entertain tourists for lunch.
Astounding smells of infused beauty melting before me.
Tuberose absolute mixing with gardenias and gliding,
stroking smooth skin uniting with sweat into glorious
aromas of coconut and sun caressed bodies – chatting.
Swaying in the wind are seeds that replant the lush soil.
Nature is telling stories of life to deer that tread wisely,
nibbling while watching squirrels take forage from birds.
Dangling cocoons move as caterpillars plan their escape.
Tearing at their hardy, cloud-white confinement – hungry,
Willow oak leaves will make the perfect meal for months.
Japanese magnolia and Pear trees bloom with fairy dust,
envious of each other’s hues feeling slighted by the pansies.
God has dressed these spring ornaments in glossy colors
from His heavenly palette of love, which makes creation weep.

Joni, every word in this poem is divine: it’s the blessing of God and Nature. You really brought out the miracle of spring. You have my heart. I love your words honeybun.
    Stay blessed. Be loved.

  3. Hey Joni, I am H.R Phoenix. Less than 5 minutes ago I found out about your blog and started discovering. And I have to say, your words allured me, your poems intrigued me, your posts inspired and I fell in love with your site at once.

    1. Thank you for all you extremely kind words. I am very appreciative of your kindness. Your blog looks very intriguing as well will definitely take a look. Stay safe and healthy. Love 💕 Joni

    1. Thank you sweet Rhen I am glad you like the poem. Yes it is different in the south then in Seattle area in terms of land. You can’t find a house with land things are much more economically feasible here. We are so blessed to have deer, turkey, hawks large owls and we did have a brave fox for a while but I was glad when he left. Love you sweetie. Your sister Joni

      1. We have a seven pound doggie that I was afraid would be eaten when going potty. Except for walks he is an indoor baby. Much love to you as well. Please stay safe. Love you 😘

      2. You’re always in my heart and prayers, all of your family–stay safe and well. Hugs and kisses–from a distance! 🙂

      3. That means so much to us Rhen. You are in my prayers too. I love you girl. You stay safe as well. Hugs sweetie. 💖💕❤️😘🌸🌺

      4. And it means a lot that you pray for me–prayer is Powerful!! I wish we were closer–I could leave cooking/baking treats at your door 🙂 <3

      5. Thank you so much Rhen that is so sweet. I know you would too. We could go for walks together, have tea together and maybe even go to church together. Sounds lovely. Have an amazing Easter Sunday Rhen. Hugs sweet sister. Joni

      6. It all sounds so wonderful! Who knows, maybe the Lord will make it happen one day (before I’m completely decrepit, haha!). We will share Easter together from a distance <3 Good Friday is a hard day.

      7. It can be hard to imagine how Our Savior suffered. Our service via internet was about the five miracles that happened during the crucifixion. Love you Rhen have a blessed Easter. Hugs and love coming your way. Love Joni

      8. Oh, Joni–I’d love to hear more about the 5 miracles…I wonder if it’s similar to Steven Furtick’s book and message series called The Seven-Mile Miracle. Is your message available via Calvary Chapel Cary? I can look later, no problem! I’ll be cooking today–do you have Easter dinner plans?

      9. I would love to send you the link about the five miracles. I actually think you would enjoy our Pastor’s preaching. It is line be line biblical teaching with the Greek meanings of all significant words and what is going on geographically as well. I will put it on this response for you. He will be preaching tomorrow and we are excited to hear. No, we don’t really have plans. I might make homemade pizzas for us and I am making a cake but that is a usual day. We will be giving thanks for Christ’s resurrection and will probably try and find a biblical movie. I hope you will not be alone tomorrow Rhen. I wonder if you and your good friend could wear mask and watch a service tomorrow or something. So go into YouTube and then type in Calvary chapel Cary and then look for Pastor Rodney Finch and underneath the name of our church you will see Five Miracles on the Cross. Matthew 27:45-54. You can enjoy the singing or go to the preaching. Let me know what you think. I love you sister. Happy Easter to you dear friend. Hugs Joni

      10. Thanks so much, Joni! Your homemade pizza sounds SO DELISH!!! I am sorry to say things did not work out with the neighbor I was initially hopeful would be a friend… But I don’t mind being alone at all! Jesus and I celebrate all the holidays together <3 I will check out the YouTube message from Pastor Finch! Love to you, Sister–HE IS RISEN (tomorrow)!

      11. I am so sorry to hear that my friend. You are right my friend He is Risen!! Yea, we are so blessed to know him. I will think of you tomorrow Rhen. I love you sister. ❤️💕😘🌸

  4. What a delightful poem to go with spring & your words to describe it. It just fills me up with warmth & the appreciation of nature & love. Your pictures are just amazing, you are so blessed to see this astounding wildlife in your own back yard & capture it on film to share with others. You are one incredible human being & I love you so much my friend!!

    1. Thank you my sweet friend, I am so glad that you liked it. You are so sweet Janette. I hope you are all still being safe and careful. I know numbers are down but I believe we should still be super careful. I love you guys. Thanks for always reading and your super support. Hugs, love and blessings for Easter. 🤗🤗💕❤️😘🙏🌸🌺

  5. Beautifully written, Joni! You weave a beautiful world with your words. I also see you have an upcoming publication on Spillwords Press. I am so looking forward to reading that and seeing your wonderful work shared with a greater audience. So deserving! Stay safe and well, and keep the beautiful words coming! ❤

    1. Happy Easter Brad hope you are feeling healthy and blessed today. Thank you for all your very gracious and kind words. I am grateful for your thoughtfulness Brad. I really enjoy your work as well and look forward to your post. Thank you for mentioning Spillwords I am so appreciative to their magazine. Gabriela has been such an encouragement to me about submitting my work. I know you must be looking forward to her book as I am. I don’t know about you Brad but I like to own, smell the pages of a book made with paper. I can remember when I first read them and enjoy their words over and over again. I am guessing you are the same. Be blessed Brad and please continue to stay safe. Lots of hugs coming your way. Love 💕 Joni

      1. I, too, enjoy the feel and fit of a printed book. I am so looking forward to Gabriela’s next publication. She is someone we can all aspire to, though she would never admit it, as she is as humble as she is talented. I am glad you followed her encouragement and have submitted your work to Spillwords. The exposure of your work to a larger audience is a little scary at times, but the benefits are so valuable. I have been blessed to have some of my work published there and to read from so many other talented writers and poets on their site. It was no accident that she was chosen ‘Author of the Year’. And who knows, maybe you are the next. But only if you keep writing and sharing you lovely words! Stay safe and sending tons of hugs back to you! 💕🤗😊
