The Fallow

A man stood up in a field, he was dirty and his hair matted
Her smile met his, and she and this homeless man chatted

Where did you come from sir she asked already knowing
Well I lost a boot and was searching, the girl smiled sowing

Seeds of love for some might need planting like a flower
Grateful she had passed that fallow at such precise an hour

She offered happily to buy lunch for this man of many years
Trying to overlook how thin he seemed she fought back tears

She asked if she could give him a hug as she looked into his eyes
Cobalt blue and clear his gaze as he said, oh yes, it was no surprise

Wrapping her arms around him tight and squeezing with such love
Not a coincidence she felt his spirit, this being was from above

Ahead of her now she could see an intense glow around the man
Blessed by his presence, she knew she had touched an angel’s hand

We never know when a guest of Our Great Lord we may be greeting
Be gentle to one another for this opportunity from God is fleeting

Hebrews 13:1-2 1 Continue in brotherly love. 2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.

“The Fallow” is a simple poem, but it is about an experience I had while living just outside of Seattle. While walking on a beautiful sunny day with a slight breeze in the air, I felt a sudden surge of happiness. I saw a man beginning to stand up within the bush of an unplanted field. It was as if I could sense that this old, thin man with such a fantastic smile was special. Offering to walk with him to a restaurant nearby to buy him lunch, he told me kindly that he wasn’t hungry. When I had asked if there was anything I could do for him, his smile grew more profound. He declined. I felt drawn to him the way one does to a Gardenia; that scent is so strong you must touch, feel, and smell it. When I asked him if I could please hug him, he told me he would like that. I held him for a few more seconds then perhaps I should have, but I knew he was unique, and he certainly was.  Love Joni

      2. Dearest Button, You have already heard my apologies, but let me say it again, I would never ever ignore any ones comment. This comment was written in March can you believe this. What you must of thought of me and how rude, yet you and my other followers still loved me and followed me even after being ignored. Thank you for this precious comment and your kind support as you will never know how much it meant and continues to mean. Sending so much love and lots of honeysuckle. Yours, honeybun

My apologies, I didn’t see this comment until just now. I chatted with an accommodating person on WordPress for about an hour to understand how I could be missing comments.

I found out today that WordPress limits the number of notifications you can have (a relatively small amount that’s not configurable). If I don’t respond to comments quickly (which includes new posts on every site I follow), it is likely to drop off. This means I won’t see a comment at all, as I have reached my limit, and the comment drops off.

I should be able to bypass this limitation by checking the comment section of my WordPress account on the computer many times a day. Please accept my apology, and I sincerely hope you have a blessed and fantastic day!

  5. Oh Wow, you did a wonderful job with this one, Joni. And I didn’t know you had lived near Seattle, previously–did I mention I’m just north of Seattle (Lynnwood). Much love <3

    1. Thank you sweet friend. Yes you did. That is a nice area. Please be careful my friend. My daughter is in Kirkland and I know things are difficult there. I am glad you are writing and staying safe and busy. Take care and I am praying for you. Love 💕 Joni

      1. Ahh, thanks for reminding me your daughter is nearby, in my area 🙂 And thank you for your prayers–I have no worries about my own health and safety, feel very secure in God’s protection. I’m a homebody–only go out for groceries 🙂 My love and prayers for you continue, Joni <3

  6. Your poem and story touch my heart. It reminds me of the song “what if God we’re one of us”, thank you for sharing with us today. We needed to hear it. Much love to you ❤️

    1. You are so welcome. Please don’t be so hard on yourself I am sure you are a beautiful person, anyone who hugs trees must be. I am so glad you liked my poem. That experience was a blessing to me from God of that I am sure. Love you and there is nothing wrong with staying close to a mother’s apron. What a blessing. Love you sweetie. 💕💕 Joni

    1. Hi Anna, please forgive the late responses. We had to put our doggie, to sleep after twelve years, and we are still mourning for him. Thank you for your very kind comment. I appreciate your kindness and support so much. Sending you lots of love and hugs for this week, dear Anna. Love J

      1. I am so sorry for your loss, Joni. We have had to put well loved dogs to sleep over the years, as well. The decision is heartbreaking even when illness requires it as an act of mercy to the animal. I do believe we will see our beloved pets in heaven. “In that day the wolf and the lamb will live together; the leopard will lie down with the baby goat. The calf and the yearling will be safe with the lion, and a little child will lead them all” (Isa. 11: 6).

      2. Oh Anna thank you for sharing that verse. I was either not aware of the verse or forgotten it. That is such a blessing to me today. I can’t tell you. My husband and I have been talking about this a lot. We both believe we will walk and talk with the animals in heaven. This was such a gift today. It would seem like God with his limitless grace would bring the souls of all our beloved animals back. Thank you so much dear Anna. This is a real gift today. Sending love and blessings to you. ❤️💕💖🙏 hugs J
