A Day Adrift

Gentle winds weep as gusts carry toilsome burdens swiftly along
Mermaids, fairies, and whales join in this hauntingly woeful song
Old legs holding up sorrowful eyes cry blood upon the empty street
Rusted iron table, only one chair left where her friends would meet
Heavy skies release a burden and clouds bring forth a dense rain
Covering porch swings, hobby horses, toy cars cleansing vast pain
Rain smells of jasmine, lavender, honeysuckle, and the huge pine
Washing heavy yellow pollen off surfaces to assure seedlings in time
Tenderly sparrows are driven to face the world alone from their nest
The elderly lady brings tea to her old table praying softly for a guest

  1. It was such a pleasure to read this beautiful piece… the way that our pain can be healed within nature
“Gentle winds weep as gusts carry toilsome burdens swiftly along”.

    Beautiful photograph too.

I read your blog intro, and found it incredibly inspiring. Happy to read your words 💜

    1. Oh I am so grateful you like it so much. It means a lot to me. Thank you for your very gracious words. Thanks for reading my blog entry as well. Also glad you liked my photo. Love 💕 you Joni

  2. I agree with the other readers–beautiful poetry, and I love the photo too! May God bless and keep you well in the coming week, Sister <3

    1. Thank you sweet sister, I am so glad you liked it. I really liked your inspirational versus this morning, beautifully done. Stay well and blessed. Love you Joni

      1. Joni, if you’re interested, I sent you a FB friend request (going by the name Odette Sparrow, so you’ll recognize it’s me, Rhen)…and it shows my real face :)💕

      2. Great! And now I’ll tell you that my legal name is “Leslie”…so many aliases/pen names 🙂 Crazy, huh? 🙂 I also looked up the church you mentioned–is that your home church?

    1. Thank you so much Dawn I am so glad you like and related to the poem it means a lot to me. I hope you have a truly blessed week my friend. Love you Joni

  3. You have a beautiful mind and a giving kind heart and when you write these qualities come forth…beautiful thoughts, expressed so perfectly. Loved it Joni. Take good care and stay home, alert and aware until this is all through. With faith and with the help of our God we will come through this…Love and well wishes of health and peace from Spain,
    Francisco

    1. Dear Francisco thank you so much for your kind words. I am so very glad you loved it. Please also take the best of care yourself. Our God is a Mighty God and we can pray for each other. I am sure you are already doing this. Peace, love and prayers for good health coming from NC. Love 💕 Joni

  4. Joni, this is absolutely gorgeous. It’s scented. It’s humid. It penetrates the senses and it touches the soul. It mesmerizes the reader. What a magnificent piece.
Honeybun you are blessed by God with an unbelievable talent. Make the best of it.

“Tenderly sparrows are driven to face the world alone from their nest
The elderly lady brings tea to her old table praying softly for a guest”

    What an imagery. Breathtaking.
Safe safe honeybun, Plenty of love to you.

    1. Thank you so much beautiful Button. I am so grateful you liked it. Your words truly do humble me. Thank you for always reading. I listen to John Williams and Lisa Gerard to do a lot of my writing.

Music transports me to another place. I close my eyes and the words flow.

Yet when I force something that doesn’t want to be written (something I have been working on for days) just can’t be pushed.

So glad to hear from you I was actually worried about you. I hope you are well continuing to pray for you. Please take care of yourself. So nice to have God with us. Love you Button.

      1. ” I was actually worried about you.” Thank you so much for thinking of me, Joni. I am fine sweetheart and I hope you are too.
Sending you plenty of love and hugs.
        Have a magnificent evening honeybun
        xoxoxo

      2. Such a heart wrapped in love and sensitivities that only Angels feel its heavy beating as a hummingbirds heart races with its metabolism to survive. Wings of a tender soul reaching out to embrace the world with love and the sweet gift of words of honey. Thank you sweet Button. I am fine. Our hearts have connected through our poetry. Please take care of yourself. Love you beautiful Button. My sweet love takes very good care of me as I do him. 😘😘🌺🌸🌺 I hope you call someone if you feel badly don’t isolate if you get ill. Though I feel you will be fine. Sleep well Button.

    2. Dear Joni (honeybun) and Gabriela M (Button),

Yes, I would like to concur with the gist of the Gabriela’s comment. You are indeed an astute observer and perceptive poet, Joni. 🙂 In particular, I really appreciate the sentiment and your observations of various happenings in Nature. Well done!

There are a couple of things in your rhyming poem about which I have noticed:

      (1) The poem comprises one ten-line stanza rather than five two-line stanzas.

      (2) The partial(ly adrift) rhyming of the words “pine” and “time”.

In any case, the photo of the beautiful garden is lovely. I wonder whose garden it is.

Like you, I also like the inspiring music of John Williams and the voice of Lisa Gerard.

      1. The garden was in Manteo, NC. The Elizabethan Gardens, which are beautiful. I am so glad you liked it. Also thank you for your kind comments regarding my observations of nature. I believe my gift comes from God. I write what is on my heart. I suspect you may enjoy Hans Zimmer’s music as well. Have a blessed evening. Love 💕 Joni

      2. I am delighted to hear from you, Joni. Yes, Lisa sang in title song of “The Gladiator” as composed by Hans Zimmer.

Hopefully, you will find some of the music that I composed, arranged, played and/or recorded enjoyable to you.

      3. Hello there SoundEagle, hope this finds you well and in great spirits. Please forgive this late response I have tried to explain below what has been happening to my comments based on information from a WordPress chat for over an hour. I hope I understand now. I did not know that comment can just drop off the notification bell on my phone after so long. I have like 2.8K comments and I have met my limit. Your response was so sweet and helpful. You are obviously a very talented musician and have worked with some amazing people. Just know, please that I would never ignore a single comment. I have tried to explain as best I can below what happened.

My apologies, I didn’t see this comment until just now. I chatted with an accommodating person on WordPress for about an hour to understand how I could be missing comments.

I found out today that WordPress limits the number of notifications you can have (a relatively small amount that’s not configurable). If I don’t respond to comments quickly (which includes new posts on every site I follow), it is likely to drop off. This means I won’t see a comment at all, as I have reached my limit, and the comment drops off.

I should be able to bypass this limitation by checking the comment section of my WordPress account on the computer many times a day. Please accept my apology, and I sincerely hope you have a blessed and fantastic day!

      4. Dear Joni,

Four months have passed since I composed those three comments in your post entitled “A Day Adrift”. I am delighted to hear from you and to know that you are dealing with issues about comment notifications as best as you can. Hopefully, you will never miss another comment again, especially the really good ones. 🙂

      5. Dear Joni,

I submitted a very long comment to you just a few minutes ago but it seems to have dissapeared. Please kindly check whether it has been consigned as a spam comment so that you can resurrect it. I am trying again for the second time as follows:

      6. Thank you so much. I wrote down the link and I don’t appear to have any spam. Thank you so much for sending this. I have a lot of catching up to do. I hope you have a blessed day. It will be tomorrow before I get a chance to listen but I will and I will sent you a message. Have a great evening my friend. Love ❤️ and hugs Joni

      7. I found the spam and you were there just like you said. Someone who I follow daily was also there. I don’t understand how that could even happen. I just got up and I promise to get back to you today my friend. Have an amazing morning. Love and hugs to you and your loved ones. Joni

      8. They are probably very busy. I don’t understand how this happened and I won’t even know how many comments that were completely dropped. The people I have chatted with have always been so super kind and helpful. I still don’t understand the storage issue. Now I will have to look throughout the day. This will make it difficult to write. I have to be in a good space and listening to music when I write. I am sure as a musician you understand. Thanks for being so understanding. Love 💕 and hugs. 🤗🤗❤️ Joni

      9. Since you “have to be in a good space and listening to music when” you write, may you enjoy my composition called “🎼🎹—THE—🎹—LAST—🎹—RAG—🎹🎵🎶”. There are three versions to be savoured:
        (1) The 1996 Original Edition
        (2) The 2010 Special Edition
        (3) The One Played by Professor Stephen Emmerson

When the post is loaded, the 2010 Special Edition should start playing automatically.

      10. Thank you in anticipation, Joni. Apart from the music there, you are also very welcome to comment on my poem, essay and the stylish presentation as well as animations that I have enthusiastically created to please all of your senses (except the sense of smell and touch) and to delight your heart and soul with imaginative nuances, colours, textures, sounds, movements, words and ideas. 🎼🎹 <3 ☀️💐🕊

      11. Dear Joni,

I shall reply to you with a very bespoke comment at “🎼🎹—THE—🎹—LAST—🎹—RAG—🎹🎵🎶” as soon as I can, as I am currently occupied with a number of errands that I must complete within a day or two.

May you have a speedy recovery! <3

      12. Thank you my friend. Your words were also beautiful. I was taken a bit by surprise at the quality of the composition. Really nicely done. Have a great evening. 💕Joni

      13. Dear Joni,

You are very welcome to submit more comments at “🎼🎹—THE—🎹—LAST—🎹—RAG—🎹🎵🎶” after your subsequent listening to the different editions of “The Last Rag”. If you can read music, then you are also welcome to comment on the musical scores there.

Furthermore, you are free to read some or all of the existing 115 comments at “🎼🎹—THE—🎹—LAST—🎹—RAG—🎹🎵🎶”, and reply to any of them if you like.

    1. Thank you so much Anna for your lovely words. They mean so much. I am so glad you enjoyed this piece. It is one of my favorites as I don’t like to think of older women alone in this often harsh world. Friends can be such a comfort. Love you ❤️🌸Joni
