Red Tide

winds pound through bent trees
roots cling tight to sandy ground
gust bring sounds of ghosts

dead lie the soldiers
battle of fort fisher lost
blood soaked the white shore

In North Carolina, Fort Fisher was a Confederate fort that protected the trading routes at the port at Wilmington. The Union captured it in 1865.

The fort is a beautiful place to photograph with its salt and wind twisted trees. Photo by Joni
