To Float Out of Existence

Terrifying was the firm declaration of her voice
Nonexistent was empathy in her vivid testimony.
I dreamed of you again, Joni, your waist length hair
Framing your petite face floating in the chilly waters
Of your bath, a slight layer of water visible above
Your lifeless body as your essence was striving to
Float, as the weight of your locks, took you faintly under.
So serene the vision of your naked body emerging
Worries vanishing like the half bar of floating soap
Skimming along the now still surface of the water.
My mother's reiteration of this account of her dream
Of my premature death during my youthful years.

  1. Wow, some things are truly better off unsaid. I thank God for the work He has done in and through you… that we can have wisdom to open our mouths in kindness, or not at all. Love to you Joni.
