Evocative eight notes of the Barred Owl as he seeks,
A female he will partake in a duet with for weeks,
In the early fall at dusk, his longing hoot seems to peak.
Who cooks for you, who cooks for you is his retold song,
As he waits and dreams, a willful female will come along.
I bow my head and give thanks for my ability to hear,
The warbling of joy from all the birds that reach my ear.
